Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

Is anyone SURE if the Duncan Performer Detonator is very close to the invader? Because I am going for the Blink 182 sound and I know Tom DeLonge uses the SD invader. Would that, (the Performer Detonator) in ALL honesty, be good for punk (Blink 182)???

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

I own a detonator and it sounds GREAT.. for $30 you apsolutely cannot beat it at all. its very close to the invader, go for it

great bass response while holding the mids in tight.. suprising good cleans as well

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

You will get blink tone as long as your distortion box is real high gain.

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

I just ordered the SD-Detenator from musicainsfriend.com and I will let you know how it works out for me. But my question is this: Can I just twist the wires together or do I HAVE to solder them together? And does it make a HUGE difference if I don't solder them together?

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

um..i think you have to solder them together..-_-^.. as far as i know, twisting them doesn't work. if you can't solder them, get a tech...
well, yes it makes a big difference because one method will produce sound while the other will not. lol

And don'r be afraid to give it a try (soldering). I sent mine out the 1st time then did it myself the next and with SD's wiring diagrams, it's easy.

Besides, if you mess it up you can take it somewhere, antway.

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

the guy on ebay is selling the invader for 18$?

i came to two diferent versions.. the one in the tom delonge replica squier, looks like the invader, but i havent looked at it closer nor played it so i cannot say..

and the detonator on the KE3 kelly, which has normal pole pieces.

well, i cant say more than these guys did .. go for it if you want that sound

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

tom delonge now uses the gibson dirty fingers in his hollowbody now. You culd use the invader to nial his tone as well. My hot rails in my strat cand o blink 182 fairly well too. Just get a VERYhot out put with plenty of chug in the gain section.

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

it is a very hot pup, even the detonator. i tried one today.. it's heavy. it's got enough bass to whomp you off the seat, add massive amounts of gain and you're set

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

Soundwise, the two are close, but not that close. I've read that the Detonator is actually closer to a Distortion as far as the internal wiring goes. I also know that the Invader has 3 magnets, while the Detonator has 1. However, I own both, and if suddenly my Invader disappeared, the Detonator wouldn't have much trouble picking up its slack.

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

tom uses an SH8 invader. same pickup i use. and they sound brilliant. great amounts of punch.

Re: Invader v.s. Duncan Performer Detonator ....

ok... me and my friend had an invader off... Squier Standard fat with a detonator vs. the Tom Delonge signiture.
The squire had a bit less definition per note, but had a tad bit more out put with the detonator than the Fender did. Regardless of that, they sounded identical. I'd say, it's a good idea to go with the detonator.
