i have an alder body jackson soloist which has been through SD Custom, JB , Invader and eventually settled on and EMG 81.
this guitar is my downtune guitar which used to be in drop B (yuk) and now is in drop C.
The EMGs wins handsdown for clarity/and high gain stuff for downtuned stuff.
The invader was really muddy and bassy in this guitar. The Jb was ok but the Custom was better...again...for the downtuned stuff...
i moved the Invader to another alder body jackson kelly which replaced the JB that was in that. this guitar was tuned to Standard Eflat and the Invader sounded better in this guitar
Compared to the jb was a lot darker and gainer. it wasnt as clear as the JB
im still not a big fan of EMGS,Invaders ie High gain pickups ...as i like the sound of my guitars...but for metal its more to do with your amp than hte pickups IMO
