Invader vs. JB vs. Tone Zone for metal

Re: Invader vs. JB vs. Tone Zone for metal

Jim doesn't put a metal spacer under the fillister side, so the magnet is already bigger than usual to make up that open space. When I was trying different magnets in mine I was using the spacer bar from a 490R.

The big mag pushes the low end some and stiffens the pickup a bit. I like it both ways.

Re: Invader vs. JB vs. Tone Zone for metal

a) resistance is not an accurate indication of the "output" of a pickup.

b) considering you've tried all those pickups and yet are still looking for something tighter then maybe you need to examine something else in your rig to get tightness.

What gauge strings are you using?
what are your amp settings?
do you use any effects?

To me going all the way that far is just too much to find the dream tone. It's just music after all, not exploring new oil wells. Just use an all-around tools and play away...

I'm not sure that Convoytonothingness actually read my initail post, I'm super happy with my amp, cab, tone etc. I bought a new guitar, a SG Standard and bought those 3 particular pickups to try out in said guitar. All my other guitars have custom wound Manlius pickups. I love Micks pickups (Manlius), but for my SG I wanted to try pickups that I've never tried before.... And if some people missed the point of my initial question, it's probably my fault for not being very clear.
