Invader with regular pole pieces?

All this fuss for some regular screws, an in the end after you replace them the pickup looks worse than it did before. I say just let the invader be the invader.

The asthetic point is to put a cover on it, a cover won't fit with the large poles.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

So you think an Invader with a cover will work out for you?

I was just thinking . . . I wonder if you could remove the hex-heads, put the cover on, and then re-install the hex-heads. They'ld perform double-duty holding the cover on, and it might look cool. Then again - it might look like poo. :laugh2:

Tatooed this is a crappy idea of Sabbath riffs to get an idea if it's decent for that kind of music. I just used a Plexi model on the V-amp2, so a real amp will sound much better. Forgive the sloppy playing I did this early this morning after quite a few drinks lol.

Breakfast of champions.... :laugh2:

Thanks for the clip, I just picked up an Invader from a guy on another forum for $45. Now I need to find the screws and a cover. I'm curious to try this out through my Budda Superdrive.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

Tattooed, I don't think you want stainless steel, thats almost non magnetic. I have the stainless steel sheet metal screws I got from Mc Master and they barely stick to a pickup magnet.

Secondly 10/32 fillisters will fit the hole perfectly but you will have the large filister head on top of the bobbin, just like the button head screws from the Invader.

Unless you found fillisters that look like the one I pictured earlier in the thread where the thread and head are the same diameter, then I'd say it's not going to fit under a cover if thats what you were still aiming to do. Just trying to save you some trouble.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

Ideally the best choice would probably be black oxide. Typical nickel plated pieces are actually more non-ferrous, and they are commonly used on pickups of all makes.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

OK, I think I found some, whatta think?

Material: Black-Oxide Finish Alloy Steel

Screw Style: Standard Socket

Point: Flat

Hex Key Size: 3/32"

System of Measurement: Inch

Thread Size: #10-32

Length: 3/4"

3/4" is going to be too long. If you measure the thread of the button head screws you'll find they are just over 1/2" Ideally it would be 9/16" but not sure if Mc Master carries that size. Worth a shot.

When I ordered mine I ordered the 1/2" and they work but they are a little shorter than ideal, and the strong magnet pulls the polepieces down sometimes but the tight fit keeps it from going to far. I think 9/16" would be almost perfect. I think I will need to reorder some myself in that size.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

Not having read all of the posts, I'll add this: I replaced the larger hex screws with the smaller ones some years back... the end result was a more narrow focus with less bottom and some added snarl.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

Boston Joe, well that will save you some time from reading the rest of the post as thats what I also suggested.

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

This is a covered Demon, but the Invader would look similar.

Alternatively Tattooed, have you considered the "no holes" covers you can buy, and it will look like a Gibson Iommi pickup which in my opinion is somewhat traditional and rather classy.

If only I had gotten that lucky with my SATs... :laugh2:

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

I know it's an old thread but why start a new one? (honestly I didn't see the dates)

what screws are in the invaders that dude from Avenged Sevenfold has? They're nice and shiny, might not look bad putting hexs in the front coil and putting on a chrome cover with the chrome (whatever they are) cap screws in on top of the cover for the back coil.

dont know how it would sound though...

Re: Invader with regular pole pieces?

well it says "custom invaders" so I'm not that sure really. Funny thing is Syn Gates' tone isn't very huge like any invader sounds. And he throws them into a mahog set neck guitar...weird!!
