Is a setup needed going from .10s to .11s ?

Re: Is a setup needed going from .10s to .11s ?

I always let a guitar sit after moving the truss rod hex nut 1/4 turn for at least 24 hours.

Damn. And I always adjust with only the D and G strings detuned.

Hey bro, this has only to do with the easiness of turning the truss rod and its potential resistence (and subsequent damages) related to friction.

Ah. I must say that every neck is different. Some react to alterations quickly, and some slowly.

If your guitar can't handle 11's, you need to get another guitar.

Never tried it..... it is a pretty sturdy guitar though in the sense that it stays in tune and strings don't break on it as much as my Hamer USA Sunburst... in fact I've never broken a string on the ibanez artist and I hit pretty hard. I thank the Gibraltar bridge for that...

I'm sure it will be fine with .11s but will the intonation be messed up? Not sure

bro I think in common tradition of us guitar players there is quite bit of overthinking here. I hope u get those 11s as soon as possible and start to get a feel for what they bring. u might get the occasional fret buzz, but never mind. IMO any guitar with a truss rod should be able to handle 11s fine. but don't age them, cos the setup should be done when the strings are new. first get to know whether 11s are your thing.

just chill, when I put 11s first time on my musician, it didn't bow much, and the only thing robust about the neck physically was the 5 piece construction it is so thin. in fact I thought of leaving the bow as it is, cos I felt I could dig more when played chords. I liked it and even went far as adding a wound 20 for the g-string and it still was OK. after playing a while and really liking it, I did the intonation setup and all strings were only cents off with the wound g being furthest off. artists are awesome guitars, you'll be pleased if u don't mind the muscle required to bend (that is my only fret with the wound g)
