Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Oh dear mercy!! A Liberty?? WOW!! Was it all that ?? Do tell.
I want a pro axe and have been wanting a Stagemaster (but Ive got this base covered with a Japanese Bluesbreaker model coming!!!) Plus the ultimate looked to be the liberty, but those are so rare. I may not even care for one, so Im curious how it is..

Whofan,
Ill have read up on the diff tween that and a grail then. Im a member over there too.. Im not a Kramer expert, but Ive studied a verse or two from the Kramer scriptures.. Seems like that guitar had something unique, but there was a limited run like it that is referred to a the holy grail.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

I've tried every version of Edward's signature guitars since the Music Man came out and it remains the both the best playing and best sounding one so far. Although, to be fair the others were very nice as well, but they didn't have the mojo the MM's did. The amps are a different story. I never got along with ANY version of the 5150. Just not to my taste.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

First off i am a big fan of his so this thread IS NOT about talkin trash about him.(SO PLEASE DONT!) I wanted to know how other fans of his felt abov hls offering the EVH products? i have bought a few things and am very happy with the qaulity of them especilly the frankenstein pup which is IMHO the best sounding pup i own!
Why shouldn't he? He's entitled.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

I had the Kramer Focus 6000. It was a very cool guitar with great tone. The neck was great but the tone arm had a weird wiggle or play in the tone arm. I will say this, guitars sure looked different post Van Halen 1, as compared to Pre Van Halen 1. I think even other models or makes other than strats got more extreme as everyone wanted to push the envelope on play and style. If he finally really starts to cash in on all the improvements he helped to inspire I say why not, if anyone should make money on it why not the man that helped inspire them, after all hasent both Leo Fender and Les Paul made money on there ideas?

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Well, he's certainly not doing it as a public service. ;)

Count me among those who doesn't have a problem with it so long as he's not putting his name on junk. Actually, he could put his name on junk and I wouldn't get too upset. It is what it is and that's nothing more than business.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

I don't think it's EVH so much, it's the respective manufacturers approaching EVH, telling him they can make the products he wants and he can get a little money-royalties off it.

Years ago, Dunlop wouldn't make any custom pedals. Then all these boutique pedals come out. These days, EVH calls up Dunlop, asks for a copy of his old phasers, wahs, etc.., When they realize they can make more money redesigning it to EVH's specs and releasing an EVH model, they approach him with the endorsement.

EVH has always had an issue with quality. He left Kramer for EBMM when Kramer was making plywood body guitars from foreign parts. He left EBMM for Peavey when EBMM couldn't make enough guitars to satisfy public demand (not to mention Peavey was already making his amps). Peavey eventually released an import Wolfgang right before EVH left Peavey. From what I understand, these new EVH guitars are on the level of Tom Anderson/ Suhr in quality- so when you price the guitar against theirs, the price is about the same.

I still think the EBMM Axis is a bargain compared to the new Wolfgang.

There is something to be said about a reknowned, established guitar player having a big hand in designing these products. PRS makes great guitars, but Mr. Smith is no EVH.

I'm quite happy that Mr. Smith isn't EVH.

I'll start a different post for this so we don't keep hijacking this one, lol.

Ha! Nice...I remember that thread. I actually thought that thing was pretty cool.

EVH did his thing...love him or hate him...he was an "originator" and had a huge impact on both the manner in which music was played and guitar design...he successfully pushed the boundaries in each category and whether or not he ever does anything else...he has made his mark in musical history. If he can make a buck...so be it. : private:

Ya gotta hand it to the guy that he's kept his name to top notch stuff.
You could say he missed the boat by not getting EVH branded stuff out on the market in the eighties. I mean how much has Vai made from Ibanez down the years?

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Eddie is one of the best EVER so more power to him. From what I hear his stuff is quality. The Wolfgang guitar is real nice and worth the price.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

i think evh still is and always will be a "guitar god" he set the guitar on fire(pardon the pun) from style to how guitars are built to tone, etc.
Even though i was not even born when he was on top of his game i still really admire the guy for what he accomplished ! Must have been a very exiting time when he hit the scene.

Every guitar players jaw dropped when they heard Eruption for the first time and also spawned a whole generation of air guitarists and tennis racket players

To this day, it still gets regular play

Timeless stuff and forever a guitar hero in my memories. Eddie, you go boy, you earned it

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Is Eddie cashing in? YEP!
Does he have a right to do it? YEP!
Do I really give a rats arse? NUP!!

Think about Hendrix,Randy Rhodes,SRV,and the rest who went before their time.
Whole industries have developed over the years cashing in on these guys music ,names and gear!
They are long gone, but there are a lot of people making a living off their legacies. Some deservedly so. Others, well maybe calling them modern day grave robbers is a bit harsh, but,if the shoe fits......

When the first VH album hit,I was 16.
Music was dragging itself out of the hideous sh!t pit known as DISCO.
Add to this the "West Coast Sound" and you will realise just turning on the car radio was fraught with aural dangers!!!
Punk was getting a tiny bit of radio time but wasn't considered safe.
I can still remember a Melbourne DJ being sacked on the spot for accidentally
playing "Precious" by The Pretenders:chairfall

Anyway, just when you thought anything with a bit of balls would never hit the airwaves again, along comes Van Halen !!
These guys are playing big guitar rock the way it should be!
The LOOK rock'n'roll
The SOUND rock'n'roll
And the guitarist is doing stuff NO ONE had done before!!
WE'RE SAVED!!!!

That guy, that guitar and that sound saved music for me:notworthy
He probably did it for a lot of other guys on this forum, too.

Does he deserve to cash in while he and his family are still around to enjoy it?

HELL YEAH!!!!!

Cheers,PJ

Meh. I tried a Baretta many times (they were always hanging on the racks of the guitar store I was taking lessons from in the early/mid-80s). I liked the Pacers better, as they were lighter and had more pickup options. The Baretta always felt heavy, and never sounded better than the Pacers. In my 16-year-old mind, "why get the Baretta, when the Pacer comes with more pickups and switches"?
