Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Regardless of cashing in it would just be fun to have people bending to your whim making whatever products you wanted and spending time developing all the ideas you get about guitar related products.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

I think EVH saw how much Zakk Wylde is making for putting his name on soooo many stuff.
He wants a slice of the proverbial pie ! You make money for not doing much !

I do find it *somewhat* annoying. It would have been much more appropriate 20 some years ago BUT I WOULD RATHER SEE AN EDDIE PRODUCT THAN A SEETHER/ NICKELBACK PRODUCT.

Except for some "Chad Kroeger of Nickelback" hair conditioner.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

I just with Fender did a MIM of his Franky, non aged or reliced with floyd/trem/tone pro's options...that would be pretty cool...

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

He left EBMM for Peavey when EBMM couldn't make enough guitars to satisfy public demand (not to mention Peavey was already making his amps).

You forgot to mention the bit about him poking Sterling Ball's wife.

I dig some of the gear he's put out a lot, and some I dig less. I agree that the quality has generally been high on Ed's sig gear, except in the case of the amps. The 5150s are a very price-point kind of amp in terms of construction and reliability and the gutshots I've seen of the fender-built amp don't fill me with confidence. I could be wrong and it may be bogner-level quality but it's much more likely to be mid-range MIM fender amp quality.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Read the original and skipped right to here.

IMO, there are very few artisits worthy of sig gear period. I think there is a rash of crappy so-what used-to-be's that are getting sig stuff for absolutely no good reason. I think they are generally bad for the companies also.

Example - any "Nuno" guitar. Let's be real. He was good, but hardly a god, and no one was running around wondering what sort of metal the tone knob on his guitar was made of. No need at all.

But Ed is a slightly different story. Even today his tone gets discussed ad-nauseum. WHile his newest amp is a bit "whatever" the pedals and pups and guitars from him make sense. As would Stevie Ray gear, or the Vai Gemini box.

He is gear whoring big time, but it doesn't bother me much except his amp. Ed Peds - absolutely. And the uitar is of course unique (not that I'd want it!!!!)

HOly **** I just spewed my coffee.

My general thoughts on sig gear:

It's good for everyone because often the manufacturers have their heads so far up their butts that they don't have a clue. Sig instruments often bring about new technology/production/ideas into the fold. Without Sig instruments, Ibanez would have never made the 7 string electric for heavy metal (thanks steve). Also Herman Li's sig "s" series ibanez brought the s line back to production in Japan (also his sig guitar is absolutely stunning!). Kerry King's sig guitars kept the world aware that khaler tremelos existed. Also lets not forget about a guy named Les Paul and his sig series guitars.

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

the signature effect i'd kill to see come from EVH would be something to make the sounds heard on ....And The Cradle Will Rock... a Flanger/Phaser and a keyboard... and whatever... been dying to play that tune in cover bands... can get close but never exact

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

As long as the products are good, I don't think there is anything wrong on any level with EVH (or anyone else) lining his pockets off sig gear.

The only time I have a problem is when they lend their name to something they know is a piece of crap. But if they sign onto something they sincerely believe is a good piece of gear, I say more power to 'em.

Love him or hate him...he's had his products out there for a long time and I'm sure that he continues raking in the cash...

Lol, I love the "everybody wants one" part. It's almost telling me to buy it because all the cool kids are buying it. :dot: I would have liked to see a sig model that was more usable.

It's the name of a Van Halen song... Van Halen fans, who would be interested in this guitar, would know that...

like the EVH Gear Wolfgang, which is a superb instrument? And you're discussing the $25,000 replicas in terms other than being as exact as possible replicas, like you wanted the replicas to be different, and more useful and versatile? Then, they wouldn't be replicas would they? Are you a millionaire that can afford a $25,000 axe, but you decided against it because you don't think it's very "usable"?

Really? Please tell me I've misunderstood you as much as I think you have misunderstood everything.

And as a last hurrah here, the replica plays and feels great, and the EVH Wolf is nothing less than magnificent.

Is this sarcasm, or are you crazy?

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

it's not that, not the Zakk comparison so much, and I don't think Zakk deserves that crap either. He's a good player and an interesting person and has had a storied career and has had successes and failures and he still stands up there in front of everyone and makes no apologies.

re: Ed, what irks me far more is the "just wants a slice of the pie" crap when the guy created the pie, is the pie; and the "not doing much" comment -- the guy pours a lot of time and energy and attention to detail into this stuff. People are just dismissing careers and lives with offhand comments more and more often when they are ignorant of the legacy and the impact and the business end of it, and it's especially ignorant when there is as much integrity and care as Ed invests.

Well.....Eddie created a buisness for others...superstrats and modders, tinkers and such.
If he can make money on it here on his older days...who is to peeved about that??
Unless they are jealous or just unproductive lazy bums;)
Had a Wolfgang, never liked the Musicman much, the Fender needs a refret for me to like it....
I love the 5150III....just too huge for my needs these days....but what a sound!

Re: Is eddie just linihg his pockets with the EVH products?

Yep. I don't buy his products because his name is on there. I buy them for better reasons.
