Re: Is it a real Gibby?

Whenever you see something from China usually, or something with a description like:

Welcome to my ebay, now you can see a beautiful and wonderful artware, the item is very value .look at its figure,it is nobler and enthralling,it will give you the elegance and made you exalted.what magnetic item, please don't miss it,it will be a good present for you or for your friend, also it will give you more fortune and good luck.

RUN away!

Magnetic???? I don't think he's talking about pickups either.

Unfortunatly there's alot of crap comming out of China they're trying to pass off as the real thing. Usually the shipping is $400 while the guitar is $99....Ebay has slowed this down considerably in the last few months but they're still out there. One "dealer" even had links to his site with reviews of the "unique, elegant and beautiful quality instrument" I added a few reviews saying buyer beware, these are fakes! So.....if it's looks suspicious, and the price is too good to be true, have a laugh and ..........run......yes, RUN away!

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

Not at all real...but the question is do we care. I really think I might want one of these for the collection. A really interesting piece. Has anyone actually bought one and played them?

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

all this is irrelevant. the wording of the chinese ads is what we should be talking about - they make great reading. never mind about what they are selling, we all know it's gonna be cack. but those descriptions, they just cheer me right up!

I would like to know how they play/sound also.

Though I'd never buy one lol.

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

Obvious FAKE!
Strike 1) From China.
Strike 2) The dimension of the cutout looks Odd.
Strike 3) The paint job SCREAMS ! Done some where in the orient.

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

Overall, it appears to be an excellent copy. even the most lame Epiphone (which is also a cheap copy made in China! or Korea, or wherever) can sound killer and play great. The little oddities on these just adds to charm IMO. So - back to what is relevent: Who has played one.

Just being under a grand should be sign of fraud or damage with most real Gibsons.

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

I'd like to try one also, given the opportunity. Perhaps a bunch of us LP lovers should put a pot together and buy one. Do I think it's going to sound like a Historic LP? No. However, if you put a pair of Super Distortions or something similar in one it might be a great rockin' axe that says Gibson on the headstock.

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

No-one picked up on the fact that this one has a LP Custom headstock inlay, but LP Supreme fretboard inlays?? :eek1:

I have seen some really convincing looking ones though...if I had a few hundred spare I'd take the chance for sure!

I've read a few things in different forums on people who had bought them...some had horrible fret jobs etc, but I remember one guy who could not tell the difference (weight and sound) to his R8!

Sometimes they give out thier MSN details and I talked to one of the sellers for a while. It seems they get the guitars from elsewhere ( I think Korea) and they finish them off and put the harware on at his factory. I sent him a picture of a Jackson King V and he said he could get those too. Only thing was, he asked 'how many' I wanted. It was at this point I got scared and realised i didnt accidently want to import 50 Jackson knockoffs :11: :eek1: :laugh2:

Re: Is it a real Gibby?

Oh and another thing I found while reading up on them, is alot of the guys who would have spare cash for these things are ethicaly opposed to buying ripoff guitars and do everything in thier power to have the auctions pulled.

Strike 4 if allowed, Description has NOTHING to do with the item! This is almost always the case with these items, always the case in every one that i have seen!
