IS it just me / eBay Japan listings?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Or are Japanese eBay sellers just getting off the chain listing the same guitar multiple times, rare ones etc....

I don't shop for used guitar at Japanese prices. Getting tired of having to hit the location US Only button!

Anyway around this?

Re: IS it just me / eBay Japan listings?

Japan is one of Ebay's worst markets. Yahoo auctions are the dominant player in Japan, so Ebay does whatever it can to promote sales from there.

I set filters, so when I search it excludes items outside North America.

Yeah, Ive been getting real tired of that too. and the worst part is that nearly every listing for the same guitar, has a different price. Maybe that is how they get away with multi listing??

I was thinking the same thing! The worst part is that they are starting to steal photos from legitimate US sellers and posting them as their own.

Yep, that perplexes me, too. I don't understand how people can list for sale a guitar they don't own. Unless there are just a few sellers but each has multiple eBay identities? It's funny that the listings have different prices and different shipping, but often show the same pics of the same guitar. Sometimes four or five different ads. It can be a bit annoying.

One of my Orville LPs is a rare custom color. Long tenon, gold hardware, no pickguard or pokerchip as was normal for the small-batch special runs. I've often said I never saw another like it. Now one has turned up in Japan on eBay- two different seller IDs, two different prices, same pics. And one lists it as an OBG while the pics clearly show that it isn't. They're also asking more than four times as much as I paid for mine.

The used guitars posted by them are already priced above the new sticker price, and on top of that, they are charging hundreds in shipping. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would buy one from here in the US. Makes me wonder if its some sort of money laundering...

Re: IS it just me / eBay Japan listings?

I saw a Korean guitar (clearly Samick with the notorious Samick bridge) listed as Japanese and the seller vehemently disagreed. He said nope, it's coming from Japan. I also saw a Tokai Love Rock, this one clearly not Japanese either, and the seller used the same argument. I think some are trying to rely on point of origin for the original sale as opposed to country of manufacture for their listing. Buyer beware

Re: IS it just me / eBay Japan listings?

Read the title of the thread as "Ebay Japan Fistings" and it was still accurate.

Re: IS it just me / eBay Japan listings?

I think a lot of the sellers use the same distributors (even for used stuff) and yes, they are selling the same guitar. At least, that's what it seemed like after contacting one about a MIJ SchAnderson, made me a little nervous. Ended up finding one already in the US close to the specs I was looking for.

I also notice the price of a lot of stuff is exorbitantly expensive, and other stuff is great deals, never quite figured that out.

This happens because when you list an item, eBay will suggest another listing that matches your initial title/description as a ready-made template for your listing, treating the description and image like it's a stock catalog photo. If you accept eBays template listing suggestion, then your listing becomes exactly the other persons; description, photo and all.

I *think* it might be a lot of parttimers supplementing their pay checks by listing stuff their brick and mortar and web-clueless employers have laying around

Part of it is also shipping to remote or suspicious places that chains refuse to work with... dunno about now, but a few years back I made a bit of dough shipping stuff to Eastern Europe, their stores had truly outrageous prices and most big US retailers refused to ship there due to rampant CC fraud

Re: IS it just me / eBay Japan listings?

I hear ya

I do love seeing some of the stuff they have over there, especially vintage MIJ stuff.
