Is it just me?

Is this just me?? I have 9 guitars. 8 of them have locking trem systems. The 9th one is an acoustic. But i virtually never use a whammy bar. i just love the feel of a locking trem. Something about it just feels better to play on. I'll play some of my friends hardtails or TOM Gibsons and it just doesnt feel right. Am i weird?? Or does anyone else see eye to eye with me?? Haha, just wondering.

Re: Is it just me?

ummm i like the feel of 'em just fine, my Warlock with the cheap Floyd Rose copy definitely had a great palm mute sound but the tone of a hardtail string-through or tune-o-matic is more my style.

Re: Is it just me?

Actually I'm the exact opposite
I actually DISlike that feel the strings have when the nut is locked, they feel more stiff

BUT, when it's unlocked the tuning goes to hell so...
I kinda got used to it by now (the fact that I put 10s on my Strat helped too, the Floyded one has 9s :))

Re: Is it just me?

I hardly ever use a trem bar also, for a long time my Ibanez proline was my only guitar and it had a locking trem, I do still play it and love having fine tuners at the bridge....thats all I love about locking trems

Now I have quite a few TOMs..but my Ibanezs are string thru, I would like to have one of those fine tuner tailpieces for my LP though....but the schallers are too butt ugly to put on it

Re: Is it just me?

i vowed a long time ago to never own a guitar with a floyd, so yeah, that's my opinion i guess

seems like with trem guitars (except bigsby ones) i'm always fightin to make it sound meatier, and the setups are never as good as they are on my hard tails

Re: Is it just me?

I'll probably always have just one guitar with a Floyd. They're good, but there's something about the planted, solid feel of a hardtail, a TOM or a string-thru that I love.

Re: Is it just me?

NO i can understand it. You like that big heavey block of metal for sustain and its going to sound different than a hardtails woody sustain.

Re: Is it just me?

I LOVE my Floyd guitars, and, I love the option to be able to dive and stuff, but Ive gotten used to making my vibrato with my hands, I rarely install the arm.. And when I do, my whammy technique is awful.. I am not able to use it musically.

Re: Is it just me?

I like the feel of Les Pauls better but FR trems give you more musical possibilities. Strats have a cool feel to them too. Picking right by the bridge for tight response or away from the bridge for the twang.

Are you referring to the comfort of your right hand when palm muting on the bridge? If so, I agree entirely. I especially dislike Fender style vintage bridges because the action height hex-adjusters stick out and prong into my palm. That problem can be solved though. (link)

Due to both my liberal use of finger vibrato and tremolo dips I'm still mainly a Floyd user though.

Re: Is it just me?

yep, it's easier to palm mute on a fender-style bridge. but although i'm a hopeless downstroker and a heavy user of palm muting i now prefer tom-style bridge. it just takes a bit to get used to it, there's a slightly different angle of the right hand involved, and that's it.

Re: Is it just me?

I like 'em both. Neither one bothers me... its the change inscale length that takes me a second to get used to...

Re: Is it just me?

Ive never really used a floyd/locking trem system....

but i can say that although i never use whammy, i like the strat trem bridge 100x more than the hardtail. I have them either blocked or set up to be somewhat floating.
