Is it possible to have MJ rewind my DDJ?

Pickup must have a broken winding somewhere. Can't see it in the leads at all. Getting no readings at all. Black/red, green/white, black/white, green/red. Only getting continuity through ground.

What would it cost roughly to have MJ service this pup? Or just to have someone at Duncan do it? How far out time wise would I be looking at?

Should be able to email or call her directly if you'd like.

IMO Would be cheaper to find another DDJ in working order up for sale.

Re: Is it possible to have MJ rewind my DDJ?

If you had one open coil, you should still get readings on the other coil, so something sounds suspicious here, IMHO. I would check that you are getting a good connection between the meter probes and the wires when you are trying to take the readings, meaning not gunk on the wire ends that is insulating them. I would also check the connection of the hook up wires to the coils.

Just my <$0.02, like I said, it just seems suspicious that both coils would be open, unless there is some kind of major damage to the pup, in which case I would 2nd Beau's suggestion.

That's what I was thinking... Do you get a resistance value on anything that's less than infinity?

You know what, just ship it to me. I'll let you know if it's a dude. Honest.

Couldn't see anything that would look out of the ordinary. Ill try to get a better look.

Looks as if the red and white coming from the lead are soldered together. Is this right? They were coated/covered in what seemed to be factory wax.

Edit: Getting continuity on the red, but not through the white.....yet. Might be wax/gunk buildup.

I see now why I wasn't getting cont. through the white. It is going to the screw coil. In thought it was the white wire from the lead.

Can you tell I have no idea what I'm looking at? HA!

Re: Is it possible to have MJ rewind my DDJ?

Here's what I've got. All lead wire, and the wires they tie into, seem fine. Getting continuity on all leads to the solder point. Nothing through the pickup though.

How much more can I check? Take coils off and remove remaining tape to windings and check connections there?

Re: Is it possible to have MJ rewind my DDJ?

Have you tried wiring each coil to a jack and seeing if you can isolate which one has a short? You are really limited to what you can do to check a pickup...if it is a broken wire within the windings, a rewire might be all you can do. You just have to weigh the $65 charge with the price of finding another pickup. I don't know if I would rewind a freely available pickup, but if it is vintage/old and it means something to you, it is certainly worth getting it working again.

Re: Is it possible to have MJ rewind my DDJ?

Worth removing tape, you might see the break and be able to unwrap/solder if you're careful, may involve melting some wax if it gets to that or splicing in some wire.

I agree to check each coil individually with a multimeter, or you can alligator wire each to a cable plugged into an amp and tap with a screwdriver to see if you get sound.

Are you using alligator clips or needle tip probes? Also, what resistance range are you trying, if your meter doesn't autorange? If you're using the continuity setting, that's your problem. That's for tiny resistances less than, say, 50 ohms or less.

Tried both the tips and clips. Meter set to 20k. Getting readings on other pickups.
