Is it possible to make a 22 fret Gibson V a 24 fret?

I really like the look and feel of the Gibson Flying V, but I want to know how hard it would be to make it 24 frets. Would you just have to route out a new pickup whole and swap out the fret board, or would there be a lot more to it? I don't really have that much money at the moment so I can't just order a custom shop guitar. It would have to cost less or at $1000-$1500 since the V i am looking at is $650.

I agree with Johnny. I played one of those schecters at a locals store and loved it

you'd have to get the math right on fret placement and man, they'd be tight together on a gibson scale length fretboard ... but i cant imagine being happy with an aftermarket hack job of the neck and pickup cavity

i bet it would be a pricey mod to have a luthier craft a whole new neck from scratch with 24 frets and the desired scale length, then unglue the existing neck and attach the new one

if it was a bolt neck and you could get a replacement neck that adds the frets, that'd be one thing ...

also, you say that you like the feel of the gibson - you might be liking the feel of the shorter scale length ... that schecter V has a 25.5" scale length - thats gonna make room for the extra 2 frets but will definitely change the feel

save up for a new guitar that is exactly what you want

good luck

I don't think there would be any way to elegantly do this. Not to mention it would trash the value of the instrument (if you care about that sort of thing). It took Tony Iommi 40 years for Gibson to make a 24 fret SG even though there is plenty of room for those extra frets. I'd say just look at other Vs and get the guitar that is closest to what you want.

Um easy. plug the neck pickup and re paint the body, remove the fretboard, Glue on new fretboard with the extended range. Fret it, level it crown it and etc etc

Yeah it would be a big job.

Or buy a $250 Jackson….

Going to 24 on the Gibson cheap ain't gonna happen. Unless you maybe find some old 80's relic that had 24. I mean, they are out there on occasion, but they are rare.

Here is a guitar of the Month that had them

You could use a slide to notes out where the 24th fret would be ;)

But yeah, way too much money and time resulting in negative returns (financially speaking)
