Is it possible to "tastefully" add weight relief holes to a guitar?

by holes, are you talking all the way through the body? or were you thinking more like drilling/routing out some wood to make it lighter?

Getting the maple cap off is going to be the the hard part. I read some Gibson specs about the weight relief thing a long time ago. I can't recall the measurements, but according to them, the holes have no effect on tone as long as they are are not too close to the bridge and tailpiece. I personally don't believe that, but that's just my opinion, which ain't worth a whole lot. Gibson wasn't looking for better sounding guitars, they were looking for a way to lighten guitars made with heavy, inferior-grade, mineral-laden mahogany.
