Is it worth putting good pickups on a low quality body?

Re: Is it worth putting good pickups on a low quality body?

did you play the solo on ¨Goodbye To Love¨ ? THAT WAS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, that was great wasn't it? I remember when that song came out on AM radio and it was just this smooth Carpenters tune and then this guy just WAILS on the lead and outro---sounded like a Woman Tone 335" but I'm not sure. Cheers! JIMO

Re: Is it worth putting good pickups on a low quality body?

I try to stay away from Plywood body guitars but I have played some.

A 80s Hondo and a 80s Ibanez, both from Korea.

My experience was that the Plywood tended to produce a tone veering towards the ice pick area but that was with cheap Korean ceramic pickups so I'd tend to go for as warm sounding Alnico pickups as I could get but decent ceramics might sound ok too.

Some Plywood guitars apparently don't sound that bad ,like some of the Korean Squires from the late 80s are supposed to be ok, I suppose it depends on the actual Plywood and how it combines with a particular pickup.

I've actually got a Plywood Strat body that I bought because it had a 70s DiMarzio Super Distortion in it, so I might see what I can do with the Plywood Strat and my box of various pickups for a bit of fun.

One last thought, don't forget the "Trading Post" in this forum. You can get some great pickups for surprisingly low prices. Just keep your eyes open.

If you really like the guitar itself, then mod away. Who gives a **** what other people say. 10 times out of 10 you're going to make it sound better and the process is just plain fun.

This is true...also,if you get tired of that guitar or it doesn't sound good, you can just pull the parts out and use them somewhere else or sell them---its not like a permanent thing-----"parts is Parts"...right?? Cheers JIMO

what TheLivingDead and jimo said.

that´s how we learn. and it´s fun.

it´s better to experiment on your cheapo than on your very expensive jammy.
