you gotta be ready and willing and able and enthusiastic about

a) dealing with how loud it is

b) tweaking all of its many knobs and switches to find your favorite satisfing tones

if you are, then yes, it is a MAJOR upgrade over that model roland

+1

Most of Mesa's stuff sounds great WHEN you tweak it for a while. The Mark IV is one of my favorite amps.

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

A used Mark III will be as good than a brand new Mark IV but cheaper.

The Mark IV is geat, but VERY expensive over here. :(

Go for it though if you have the money!

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

Gee, will Mesa's top-of-the-line three channel amp be better than a Roland modeller? OF COURSE!

I love every amp in the Mark series. I generally prefer their tone over the Rectifier line.

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

I've heard that if you take that Roland Cube and wrap it in cabbage leaves and bury it in your yard for three months, it will taste like crap when you dig it up.

How ya doing man?! You need to call a brotha once in a while mang! :)

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

I bought a Mark IV last fall and its a great amp. If you have an opportunity to get one I would take it.

A good amp yes, not as good as the IIC+ but thats just unbelievably good. I love the mark series for everything but metal stuff. In all actuality if I was going to get any mark other than the IIC+ I would just buy a Triaxis. The triaxis is heavily based on some of the mark series pre's.

Are you serious? As good as the Triaxis is, most Mesa players would take a Mark IV over a Triaxis unless they need some serious rack integration. The IIC+ is not remarkably better than the IV, slightly different. My IV is '91 which has the same preamp as a IIC+.

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

Question for the Mark users and fans, combo or head? And for what styles?
