Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

I have Mark IV head and it is a great amp for all the styles I play. I mostly play blues, jazz, and calssic rock. The Mark VI has a great clean channel and the other two channels can give you anything from a nice lit distortion to pretty high distortion.

Re: Is Mesa Boogie Mark IV a good amp?

Are you serious? As good as the Triaxis is, most Mesa players would take a Mark IV over a Triaxis unless they need some serious rack integration. The IIC+ is not remarkably better than the IV, slightly different. My IV is '91 which has the same preamp as a IIC+.

I'm serious. I've never heard any other mark series pull off the tones a IIC+ can or any other amp for that matter. They're different beasts.

I'd like to know how the cleans sound. I know the distortion is great.

That's one of the amps that I really crave sometimes. But the sucker is quite powerful. So would be useless even if I were to get one now! :smack:

Anyways, congrats man. Great amplifier, it is the one!

Get ready to tweak away. Mesas can take a really long time to get just right. Odds are that once you open it up and plug in you will think it sounds great. Then you'll mess with it for a few days and it'll sound better. Then you'll tweak it for a few weeks and it'll sound even better.

Congratulations

Take the time to really hear what the amp is all about.

I found a local shop selling a used Tremoverb for a really reasonable price and after spending a few hours extensively twisting knobs I found the voicing of the amp wasn't quite to my taste. Some Mesas have a different feel from other amps and some people dig 'em and some people don't. It was at that point that I realized the Rectifier sound just wouldn't work, but Mesa's Stiletto Ace ended up flooring me (I dug the Lonestar Special as well). I've heard other people sound good through Mark series amps, but they've never really floored me either so it's a very personal thing.

Sweet man! Is that a good price for a Mark IV cos in Australia everything is so inflated I'm not to sure (thats about the price of a Marshall Valvestate new which obviously is no way a comparison)

The Mark IV is teh sh!t for versatility. The cleans are awesome on all of the Mark series.
I think the III has better distortion than the IV for balls out metal, though.
I think they're the best bedroom amps on the planet, lol.
