Is my amp acting normal?

Recently bought a 4x12 (Avatar, V30's) with my Peavey Classic 50 so I'm technically running a 6x12 now. But it sounds amazing, love it. And I just recently redid my pedalboard with core x2 cables.

Personally I think the amp is quieter than ever but a couple of my bandmates at practice today were complaining about a faint hum that only goes away if I put the amp on standby (as in turning down the volume doesn't reduce it, but going to the clean channel brings it down a little).

Apparently it's a new sound (it's faint really I never noticed and didn't notice until they pointed it out.) I don't care really, amps make noise, it's what they do but their whining is annoying lol.

Is something like this normal, they are all running solid states which are generally quieter but I just want to double check. I reeeallly don't want to spend $100 on a noise gate to shut them up, but if you guys think it's the tubes (They are El84's and havent been replaced in about 7 months), I don't mind 34 dollars to freshen up the sound and get rid of the noise.

Any ideas?

my classic 30 hums if I have the reverb up and use the boost feature. I have to isolate the reverb tank or move it out of the cabinet. Does it occur with the boost and verb on??

Look at the AC wiring in the house where you play. You can buy a little $5.00 3 prong unit at Home Depot or Lowe's that'll tell you if the wall output receptacle is wired improperly.

Re: Is my amp acting normal?

Hmm yeah I usually have it on atleast 4 for reverb. the 50 doesn't have a boost and I'm at the normal input.

No OD this is my chain:

Line 6 x2 Wireless -->Ernie Ball Mono Volume --->Korg Pitchblack Tuner
--->Boss Ph-2--->MXR Delay

This amp is always making some sort of noise/quirk, perhaps it's just time for a different amp?

Oh and we play in a milkhouse in a barn (I know) and wouldn't AC power affect all the amps not just mine?

Yeh but I think it can affect amps differently and some are more susceptible to noise. I notice this with my own gear vs gear at the high school (pa's and such) when used in the same power somethings hummed worse then others.

I suspect it's coming from somewhere in your chain.
Are you using a Pedal Power or other isolated power supply?
Also could be the wireless.

Try plugging your guitar straight into you amp with a guitar cable bypassing everything else and see if the hum is still there.

Re: Is my amp acting normal?

Aye I'll try the wireless, and I also use a Onespot I'll check out not having that. Thanks guys!

Re: Is my amp acting normal?

If you couldn't hear it until your mates pointed it out, it isn't much of a problem. They're just used to amps that are dead quiet. Tube amps make a bit of noise when they're on.

Can you hear it or any other noises you don't like while you're playing? How loud to you play?

You did up the amount of speakers you're running, so any noise the amp was making gets louder right along with the signal.

Re: Is my amp acting normal?

What impedance is the 412 cab? If it's the wrong impedance, you could be damaging your amps transformer. Is the hum there without the extra cab plugged in?
