Recently bought a 4x12 (Avatar, V30's) with my Peavey Classic 50 so I'm technically running a 6x12 now. But it sounds amazing, love it. And I just recently redid my pedalboard with core x2 cables.
Personally I think the amp is quieter than ever but a couple of my bandmates at practice today were complaining about a faint hum that only goes away if I put the amp on standby (as in turning down the volume doesn't reduce it, but going to the clean channel brings it down a little).
Apparently it's a new sound (it's faint really I never noticed and didn't notice until they pointed it out.) I don't care really, amps make noise, it's what they do but their whining is annoying lol.
Is something like this normal, they are all running solid states which are generally quieter but I just want to double check. I reeeallly don't want to spend $100 on a noise gate to shut them up, but if you guys think it's the tubes (They are El84's and havent been replaced in about 7 months), I don't mind 34 dollars to freshen up the sound and get rid of the noise.
Any ideas?
