Is no-load tone pots better?

Hi, I am wondering what no-load pots are, and if their better then liner pots? and if so do I need to hook back up the resistor or upgrade the resistor?

Re: Is no-load tone pots better?

Better is subjective. My Strat has a TBX tone control for the bridge and middle pickups, which is basically a no load when turned to 10. I prefer the sound closer to 5, which is like a 250k. Although, I like the neck/middle sound better with it cranked to 10.

Re: Is no-load tone pots better?

A no load pot cuts the tone cap out of the circuit resulting in a brighter tone when full up (on 10) when you turn it down to about 9 the cap is back in the circuit. If used as a volume pot, there would be no sound at 10 so pretty much only useful as a tone pot.

Λ This guy told me about them Λ and I love them, especially for neck humbuckers. I don't think I'll ever use anything but a no-load pot for a neck humbucker ever again.
