Hey guys, im looking into buying the dsl401, and i was wondering since the price has gone up 200 bucks is the tone/features still worth it? keep in mind i play mostly medium power practices (sometimes even lower) and the biggest gig my band plays is gunna be a small club type scene. so i know 40 watts tube is enough just wondering if the tone+features+build are worth the extra $. Btw does anyone know how much it is to add the fan mod on the amp? how much $ is it? Thanks in advance- Andrew

If you decide on it, MusiciansFriend has a catalog price of $699 good 'til May 31st. This is not an endorsement, just some info. Price was confirmed over phone by a rep. Recording Guide 2004 Drummer Issue.

Yeah get it off eBay. They run about 450-550. Then fan would be simple to install, I'd do it myself. Just get a computer fan, and splice some wires to power it from the AC adaptor.

Idk about the fan installation. But i'll sell you a fan-cooled avt 50 :laugh2:

I bought a DSL 401 used for about $450. It was heating up a bit so I installed a fan. However, after I changed all the tubes, I went to radio shack, got a digital meter and biased the tubes myself. The amp sounded 10000% better and didn't overheat anymore- it seems like the original owner just put new tubes in without biasing it. I love the amp now. I also installed a Celestion Vintage 30 which improved the low end a bit, but the stock Celestion speaker was pretty good as well.
