Is the Invader crap?

Re: Is the Invader crap?

I have 12's on it so if you like lighter strings then I'm not sure if my experiences will be the same with you. My distortion comes entirely from my marshall jackhammer. Mid scoop off, treble and bass at 1 out of 10, distortion at 7 out of 10, output at 10 out of 10, switch to overdrive not distortion. Then to a 10 band EQ with the extreme highs cut and the bass rolled off starting at 120 hz and flooring right after. Amp is a traynor with the treble and bass at 2, presence at zero.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

No the invader isn't crap, but like others have said thats probably not the best guitar for it.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

after reading the initial post, i'm of the opinion that there's something wrong with that Epi...

doesn't sustain? the Invader is in my Ibanez S540 & the sustain is impressive. you know how it is with floating vibrato- tendency to suck off sustain- not with my Invader...

+1

And unless you have the Invader seriously close to the strings (causing severe magnet pull) it does sound like there is something up with your guitar or maybe setup.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

the metallica guys used to use Invaders rite? before they used active EMGs...

Re: Is the Invader crap?

Bassy pickups sound like @ss with the POD...they just dont' work well IMO. I doubt it's the guitar.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

Thanks for all the feedback guys :) I don't think there is anything wrong with the guitar because it sounded great thru the POD before I installed the Invader. I shouldn't have been so quick to change the pup without researching it 1st. I guess I'm gonna sell the Invader and either buy a Dimarzio Super Distortion or put the original pup back in.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

I had a 70s Ibanez "Korina" Flying V and it sounded great - way brighter than mahogany, but with great sustain and a very sweet sound. I thought that that was how Korina sounded. I later discovered that those "Korina" guitars were made oout of swamp ash.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

In my experience, Invaders fit pretty well bolt-on alder or ash guitars with 25 1/2 maple necks (of course you get a different flavour with rosewood / ebony / maple fingerboards), sound good in some "thin" mahogany guitars ( e.g. "V" or maple neck-through + mahogany winged axes) and sound muddy in most "thick" set-neck mahogany guitars (e.g. Les Pauls, Explorers).

The Invader surely overloads the A/D converters of that POD and your axe has a darker sound. I guess, your guitar and POD needs a pickup with much less juice and pretty good clarity, I'd consider the '59. If you want it still hot, ones I know that work well with PODs and mahogany are the Custom, the Custom 5 and the Custom Custom. Duncan Distortion and - in my opinion - JB work best with a real amp. In your case, my favourite Invader is totally out of the game.

what do you guys think of a Dimarzio Super Distortion? would it give me a nice good crunch as opposed to being muddy? I play thru a POD, so keep that in mind.

I had one and although I love that pickup through a real amp I find it doesn't have enough top end for a POD IMO.

I'd go with something a good bit brighter, like a JB, Steves Special, Megadrive, Duncan Distortion, etc...

Re: Is the Invader crap?

I used to play the Dimarzio super distortion through a pod and I liked it alot. Dont get me wrong, I love Duncans but, I think the Super D is a decent pickup.

Re: Is the Invader crap?

I've decided to put the old pup back in. The guy I bought the guitar from said he put in a Gibson pup, but I can't tell by looking at it. It definetly doesn't say Epiphone, so I guess that's a good sign he isn't lying. The back of the pup says "PAT NO. 2,737,842".
