Is the Jazz a Vintage Pickup?

Lew was telling me in another post that the Jazz neck is a nice match for a '59 bridge in an SG. Will it offer vintage tones through a tube amp? I like the fact that it's great for clean runs, but I don't want it to sound too sterile. Another option I was thinking of is the SethLover neck. I think the '59 is out b/c I'm hearing it's too "boomy". Let me know and then I'm going to order this bad boy.

I have a Jazz neck in a mahogany body and it sounds good clean or dirty. I also have a '59 neck in a semi hollow body, and it is not boomy at all to me. I had a Seth neck in another mahogany body, and it sang like a bird. That was my fave for a vintage tone.

I'm a vintage type of guy and I like it a lot in the neck of my Les Paul. It is an articulate pickup. It does have a lot of bass -- but not too much -- like the '59 IMHO. I have it in a guitar with a '59 in the bridge and I think that it is a very nice combination. Because of the a5 magnet, it has some of that '59ish flavor though.

It also has a beautiful treble response in the neck. That is lacking in most neck pickups IMHO. If I were call the Jazz *modern* in any way, that is where I would agree that it is voiced like a modern pickup. But overall in output and tone I would say it is definitely in the vintage camp.

The Jazz Neck and 59 Neck are both vintage style humbucking pickups and the neck version of either model has a little less output than the 8.2K Gibson pafs they are based on. That's so they sound a little clearer for chords and so they balance better volume-wise with a bridge humbucker that might be wound to 8K or hotter. Lew
