Is the TS7 a good pedal?

Re: Is the TS7 a good pedal?

I hear ya...when I had my TS9 modded by AnalogMan he had to replace the switch then that switch dies and Mike hooked me up with another one so I'm good right now but I don't expect too long...when it dies next time I'm going true bypass with a stomp switch...it looks funny but it'll last!

I have the part number replacement and memory tells me it's a Mouser number? I've had 0 problems with my own modded TS 808..

Most SD-1 to TS spec mods don't take it as far as you can take it...Boss and Ibanez pedals use different clipping and most guys don't change the Boss to Ibanez style clipping but it can be done...and doing so makes them even closer!

The biggest thing is that an SD-1 modded to TS808 specs CAN have the SAME tone but everytime it seems like the SD-1 has a hair more grit on ta...not sure why, it might be a pot value thing but the tone can be dead on if you want it and are willing to take it all the way.

Actually, the clipping thing is easy to change. You replace D4 and D5 with 1N914's, jumper D6, and you've got TS clipping.

Your instinct with pot value is correct though: the drive pot on a TS is 500k versus 1Meg on the SD-1. The level pot is also different: 100k in a TS vs. 10k in an SD-1. The SD-1 is definitely engineered for more gain than the TS, and the pot values are a part of that.

Aside from that, nearly every cap value is different, and a couple resistors need to be changed as well. Possibly also the op amp depending on what's in there.

It just goes to show that even two pedals with identical circuit layouts can sound VERY different with a few part changes.

Very cool!

as for 2 pieces with the same loyouts and very different results stand in front of a 4x10 Bassman and a JTM-45 at the same time...very different results indeed!
