...Any danger to storing several lightly bubble wrapped pickups in a common box, side by side w/o risk to screwing with their magnetic properties? There's at least two heavyweights there, an Invader, and an X2N, fwiw...
Thnx and good morning all~
A double layer of bubble wrap is fine. As long as there's a bit of space, you're pretty safe.
P90s have opposing magnets separated only by the thickness of the pole screws and they last for many decades.
It could be more of an issue with stronger mags like A8 or the doublethick ceramic in a Distortion.
Ceramics aren't themselves subject to degaussing, but they can weaken alnicos if too close for too long.
Extra caution is needed with powerful neo mags - rare in pickups but not completely unheard-of.
Something that strong can affect the charge of alnicos even at a distance.
People sometimes "soften" the charge of an A5 by touching it with a repelling ceramic for a moment.
It's a quick & dirty DIY version of magnet aging, yielding smoother treble response and a slightly less aggressive attack.
A neo mag can age an alnico instantly from an inch or two away, just by waving it past a pickup.
When storing loose magnets in close proximity, packing them so that they attract each other protects their charge.
Degaussing can only become a problem when two magnets are repelling each other.
Great stuff guys, & yes, SD had run out of the Trembucker bobbins a while back, but I lucked out last year for my Dean Hardtail re-vamp with Triple-Shots.
