Is there any way to test the wattage of a speaker?

I've got this un-marked, no serial number Eminence speaker, and I'm trying to figure out just what it is.

Is there any way, and I'm heavily doubting that there is, to test the wattage of a speaker?

From what i understand, no. You'd have to send it to a 'recone' company, and they can do a test. You can get a general idea of it's impedance, by measuring it's DC resistance, applying a maths formula etc. Go to the weber webpage, theres a good FAQ, and it deals with this very issue.

Generally its fairly safe to assume that if it's got a mother magnet and a large radius, it should handle a fair amout of watts. How bout asking the manufacturererererer?

Or posting a picture. There's some guys who know their stuff, theyll even tell you which shift it was and who was working that shift, and what amp it went into, and who bought it etc....

Kinda hard to say, but the bigger the VC and magnet, the more likely it is to have a higher power rating. Not always---a Greenback has a magnet and VC pretty close to a V30, but the rating is only 25 watts as compared to 60...

Start pumping power through it. When it blows, then you'll know. :laugh2:

Seriously, I have no idea other than a speaker manufacturer possibly being able to tell somehow.

gotta ask yourself if you're feeling lucky or not

yer skrwd dood

but if its an eminence they might be able to narrow it down by the cone type ect...

smooth cone? ribbed, how many? big magnet? voice coil size? type of dust cap?

Got some pics... from the sticker on the back, it has no part number, a sample number, a 34oz magnet, VCDC of 6.4 ohms, and has a res freq of 93hz.

Farly large/shallow dustcap, 8-ribbed cone.

Shot an e-mail off to Eminence, it looks like it could be a Legend V1258, as it's got the same magnet oz and is off by 1hz for the res freq.
