Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

You play the note, stop it, you bend the string to pitch, play the bent note; done, grasshopper.

Pfft! ;)

And if it's part of a quick triplet? I think it's fairly pointless to argue over things like this. When you're playing, you do it your way. When I'm playing, I'll do it my way.

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

Just FYI - Not saying 24 fretters are useless. I play a Jackson regularly.
I'm just saying nobody plays notes in the 23rd fret. I'll do the 24th in some rare occasion and the 22nd a lot more often. But the poor 23rd rarely gets any love by its own.

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

I've bent a string up to it and past it, but never touched it. Oh wait, I've played with keyboard players before, so yes I have touched it. It was miserable.

Freakin' keyboardists anyway...

Could we just add "most of the flat keys" to the pile of uselessness? If you HAVE TO play with a keyboardist, better to just keep one guitar tuned down a half-step and transpose to a more reasonable key... 23rd fret stays useless, though! :D

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

Bah - I'd use it to make some lazy bends to the 24th, instead of really strangling the note from the 22nd.

Is this a full 23rd? That's really useless.

I am a fan of partials past 24, Only the first 3 strings tapering to the high E only.

Speak for yourself. ;)

I thought I was, locust. But I forgot that speaking for myself is arguing to someone who's always right.

You forgot to quote and reply to this part.

I'll do it for him...

*ahem*

Listening to Roy Buchanan it never ceases to amaze how he was able to get 33rd fret(not a typo) and above notes out of his Telecaster. Must have been some super custom thing.

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

Most so-called guitar players are just plain irritating anywhere above the 15th-17th fret anyway. You might think it's awesome diddling about up there, but it's usually just horrible for the average listener.

But one thing I've learnt from this place is that very few 'players' give a poop about the poor listener anyway.

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

When I play, there is no "listener" involved, so I hope you'll forgive me for not bending over backwards to cater to the needs of such a hypothetical person.

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

The only thing i use the 23rd & 24th frets for these days are tapping harmonics. I could easily live without them.

The 23rd fret bothered me so much, I had a Warmoth build me a neck without it. It is a 24 fret neck that skips the 23rd and jumps straight to the 24th.

To paraphrase Dave Mustaine, I always give the listener what they want to hear, providing it's what I want to hear.

Awesome.

Re: Is there anything more useless in guitar life...

Ahh, I can't stand the neck pickup sound on a 24 fret guitar, anyway.
