Is there better quality tone/volume POTS out there?

Re: Is there better quality tone/volume POTS out there?

Try wiring the pickup directly to the output jack and see if you get the tone you are looking for. If so themn there is a problem in the wiring or the switch, or possibly the pots.

If you get the same dull tone with the thing wired directly to the jack, then either yu have a problem with the pickup , or that is just your guitar.

I don't like the edge trms at all, and that could be source of your problem, if you block it, it may give you some of your tone back.

In that case, I'm willing to bet something is wrong with the wiring. It's easy to make a mistake if you're not familiar with guitar wiring. First, when you plug it in, do the volume and tone controls work as they should? Do you hear any buzzing or humming coming through the amp? Do the stock pots measure 500k ohms? What capacitor value are you using? These are all things you need to know.

Yes the volume and tone controls work fine.

No buzzing or humming.

Yes the POTS are 500k, I have no idea what a capacitor value is...

On the JB, did you solder the black wire to hot, green and bare to ground, and then solder red and white together and wrap them in electrical tape?

Yes I did all of the above, however with the original pickups in, I saw that red and white wires were NOT soldered together. Which is odd because the guy from Seymour duncan support staff told me to solder it exactly how you described, so I did.

Actually the 59' I have is in the 4-conductor model.

I hate my bridge too, and yes I have it stationary. I hate floating bridges.

Different pickup makers use different wiring codes. Other pickups may have the same color wires that a Duncan pickup does, but they don't always get wired the same way. If everything is installed properly, then it sounds like it might just be your guitar. I don't know what else to suggest, other than having a tech look at it just to make sure everything is installed correctly.
