Re: Is this 1989 squier guitar legit?

You're right. I found another guy who's selling his 1995 (yn5) strat. He is pretty honest about it and is actually mentioning its flaws. I think im buying the new ones guitar (100 euros / 111 dollar)

You should play both. Even if the first one isn't all Squier parts, it could be a nice guitar.

Re: Is this 1989 squier guitar legit?

do the rhcp play squires?

John Frusciante played cheap guitars for years, when you're banging $1,500 of dope up your arm every day it doesn't leave much money leftover for guitars? He's been clean & back with the band since Calafornacation, he's also an amazing guitarist!!! He owns a verity of very nice vintage Fenders, mostly Strats but some Tele's & random offsets as well (most notably a SSL-1 loaded 1955 sunburst Strat) but he still gigs cheaper MIM's & Squires today! Plus I'd imagine even a Affinity would be pretty nice after a few hours with the guitar techs he can afford....

Re: Is this 1989 squier guitar legit?

He left the band again, didnt he??

Anyhow, to the original poster. Welcome! I have a 1996 squier strat and the headstock logo looks very similar to what mine did. Mine was made in China. I also have a 1988 Squier strat that was Japanese made and the logos are very different to what you've pictured. FWIW, my 1996 cost I believe $139 USD new. I would either move on, OR definately wait on the seller to provide you whatever evidence you need to feel comfortable before you lay down and bills.

Actually, Josh Klinghoffer replaced Frusciante back in '09.

Re: Is this 1989 squier guitar legit?

This is well stated.

Looks like a cheap partscaster to me. I've never seen a painted tremolo spring claw in any Squier or Fender. The knobs are not Fender or Squier. I wouldn't waste my money on that.

You can get a new Squier for 140 bucks

^
This.

I am content that the red guitar in the opening post is "legit" but may be misdescribed and over-ambitiously priced by the vendor.

By all means, inspect the guitar again but only if you go with the intention of beating the price down to a realistic figure.

I think im gonna skip this guitar. The knobs look odd and I still haven't got the serial number. I planned a appointment with the second guy that actually did give me the serial number. I'm gettin it for 110 bucks
