Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Label looks like the old CC. But the black backs, weren't they CC's made special for Ed Roman?

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Looks like someone painted it black and put a new sticker. Well, that's what it looks like to me.

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Do you have a multimeter? Does it read what a CC should?

I don't think the Blackbacks had stickers on them.

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

I only just won the auction, I'll check the readings once it arrives. I don't even need another black bridge pickup, but for that price I thought I'd go for it. I'll probably look for a trade with a white Hot Rails.

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Ok, the reading is 13.58K, if I'm doing it right!
Anyone know what that would be?

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Looks exactly like a CC I bought one time from Ebay....black baseplate with the Duncan name and logo stamped into it, 2 white stickers ( 'ALV' and 'CC') and the seller said he took it out of a Godin if i recall correctly. I checked with MJ at Duncan and it's the real thing. Mine has the 2 holes on one of the mounting legs, just like in that picture in the link.

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Good stuff, thanks mate! The DC resistance is a little low though is it not supposed to be around 14.4k?
I don't actually have a guitar to put this in, I just bought it cos it was so cheap. I'd just like to know exactly what it is so I can see if anyone wants to trade it for a Hot Rails! :)

Hmmm, sorry, I can't help you with that part, i bought it to dismantle and use the individual coils for making hybrids. I probably measured the DC resistance of the coils but i can't remember what it read....obviously i must have been satisfied that it was a Custom or i wouldn't have gone ahead and used it. I didn't use the baseplate though, and i had it in my hand when i posted my previous post. (I did label the bottom of the hybrids with the DC resistances of each coil and what model they were from, but they are in guitars now and so it wouldn't be too easy to view those labels)....guess i shoulda kept a copy of that data *outside* the guitars too.

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

No probs, you've been a big help nonetheless, ANY info no this is gratefully received. If someone from SD told you it was a genuine Custom Custom, and mine at least looks exactly the same then I suppose there's a very good chance mine is also a CC.

Re: Is this a Custom Custom? Or what?

Anyone else, "in the know" got anything else to add to this before I tout it as a genuine CC?

It more than likely is a CC. The resistance can vary depending on room temperature or accuracy of the multimeter. I conducted an experiment last year by testing a single coil at -10 and +68 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on the temperature the resistance varied by almost 3K from low to high.

I wasn't planning on using this in my Squier, I wanted to go SSS with green pearl pickguard, but after using Kisekae I decided to do something like this, so just fitted this pickup.

You probably never noticed from the photo in the auction, but some halfwit drilled the bottom mounting hole right out, so had to use a WOOD SCREW to get the thing in there! But, I gotta say, whatever this thing is, it's awesome. Everyone compares the CC to EVH, and this certainly imparts the old Van Halen feeling of FUN, although it seems perhaps a bit hotter than I'd expect from a EVH pickup but that may just be down to my playing style.
It's a great pickup anyway, and since the guy refunded me £6 for postage, I paid less than £16 (about $25) total for this! What a bargain! :)
