Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

I'd say it's overpriced but not a "rip off".

The buyer is gonna have a pretty darn good idea of what they're getting . If they think it's worth the coin, it's a fair deal.

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

just how the hell do you break a headstock like that? weird thing is, i only see broken gibson lespaul headstocks, but never fender strats headstocks

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

You break a headstock like that by rocking with gear that is clearly not meant for rocking...

You can rock a Strat, throw it around, y'know, pull a wall of speakers on top of it, then you'll have to tune it back to pitch and finish the set...

Try that with an LP :D

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

thats cause gibson headstocks are at an angle and if you drop them it can be very fragile, but strats are straight so theres no weakness really

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

I agree that it is overpriced, but not outrageous. Someone like John (the repair guy on this Forum) could probably fix it for himself and "make" it a good deal. The price of a reputable/sturdy repair job would cancel out the price of getting a R0 ( ReIssue 1960) for that price. I would not go for it, I would rather spend the $3500 to $5000 on a new one with no previous issues!

:)

Stepping on it. My buddy recently broke the headstock of his gorgeous LP Custom exactly like that it. He stepped backwards during a jam session, and stepped right into the open case and onto the poor les paul's headstock.....it was sickening to see.

That guitar has been listed several times over the last few months, I've seen it before. He should just bite the bullet, pay for the repair and then try to sell it.

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

Whole problem is.. you don't know if it's going to be repairable once you get it. It looks like it would be in the picture, but it could be missing a small chunk of wood completely.

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

I´d say no. Why? Read on...

It can be fixed ( I still hold to my saying that ANYTHING can be fixed for a price, including Neck-thrus ;)). But it WILL be a 3 digit sum, it WILL show up afterwards, even with a partial refinish. The resale value is damaged badly short term, in 20 years it won´t make that much difference anymore.

If you want it as a pure player´s axe, and can fix it yourself, then you may wanna grab it. For a non-luthier or someone that doesn´t want it purely as a player (read "Zerb/Jonesey-style Semi-collector" or "pro-collector"), it´s not a good deal IMO ;)

But whatever you do, trace the S/N with Gibson first and make sure it´s a reissue, I have a nagging feeling its just a Classic, and THEN its a total ripoff

i think I'm gonna throw up...

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

i saw an r6 or r7 on ebay that was at like $300 but the headstock was like completely off....that one might as well be though

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

If it is an RI maybe it's worth it but I think it is such a poorly described auction you'd bea fool to bid on it regardless of what it might be worth.

Re: Is This A Rip Off, Or Is It Just Me?

I just thought that price was way out of line, even for an R0. I would think that that kind of damage would reduce the value by at least half. For me to bid on it, I would want the price to be around $1200 or so...even then, for $1500 I can pick up a standard plus.

I guess it just amazes me that people would pay that price for a question mark? Will it really be the same, will it really look decent? I can't imagine that anytime in the near future it would have decent resale. I was just amazed...perhaps my experience with this stuff is too limited.
