Is this a thing?

Okay, I'm starting another project guitar. This one will be limited to the two-humbuckers-one-vol-one-tone-one-switch or two-humbuckers-two-vols-one-tone or similar that older PRS's had.

I got to hear a 59/Custom Hybrid bridge and I dug it. It made me think, is there a hybrid set? How would they sound with Triple Shots if there is one?

In my head it's already turned into (visually) a McCarty from ten feet away. But up close It would have both humbuckers run through some kind of fairly stealthy switching to allow coil splitting or tapping or phasing or some kind of 'Whoa-I-didn't-expect-THAT-sound' stuff.

Suggestions? Ideas? Wild speculation?

I guess it comes down to: Is a hybrid set a thing? Would Triple Shots be worthwhile on said set? Have I merely lost my marbles?

Re: Is this a thing?

there is no official hybrid neck pickup to match the '59/C, but several folks here have done homemade '59/Jazz hybrids with good things to say.

Reason would suggest it would pair well with a '59/C.

For interesting switching possibilities, look no further than the Freeway 3X3-03 (the mk3, circular outline, Les Paul friendly version).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Distortion neck basically an underwound Custom? Making a hybrid of that and a '59 neck could be the matching neck version (on paper that is).

That's a really interesting concept... Have you ever done anything with a Pearly Gates? Or tried to mix up a Jazz/59 combo?

No idea about the Distortion neck being related to the Custom.

I was always under the impression that was a different beast entirely from other pickups. It used to have its own designation and name (the SH-7 "Seymourizer") prior to becoming the SH-6N Distortion neck model.
