Is this an old Hot Rails PU?

This PU was installed in a body I purchased. There's no logo or sticker on it. DC resistance is 15 kOhm. Does anybody know what it is?

Re: Is this an old Hot Rails PU?

welcome to the forum!

no, that is not a sd pup. i have seen that type of pup before but cant recall what it is

Re: Is this an old Hot Rails PU?

First I thought it could be an old Haeussel (Germany) but they told me it was not.

It is not definitely GFS, I have never seen a GFS like that before. I have an old Chandler branded pickup with that construction, which would have probably been from Japan, through Gotoh maybe?

I had seen those on an old Kramer once, and I remember them being very hot. I didn't like them, but that's not my bag, man.

Re: Is this an old Hot Rails PU?

Kinda looks like a Bardin, but that would be too good to be true.

Re: Is this an old Hot Rails PU?

Barden would be cool, but in fact the sound is rather compressed. Yes, they are loud. Output is comparable to a 498T or Invader (to mention some Pickups I also use in other guitars.

I just installed it into a 1979 strat Body (light ash, not northern ash), where it does a good job.

MIJ wouldn't surprise me. It looks a lot like the OEM rail pickups that ESP was putting in some of their standard series guitars in the late 90s, minus the 'ESP' logo of course.
