So I picked up a used Benedetto B6 off ebay on a whim since it had few bids. Just got around to putting it in a guitar nearly a year later, and at first, thought it was dead. It has a black, white and bare wire. I ran the black and bare to ground and the white as the hot. It worked but was extremely quiet. I measured the resistance and it was only 3Kohms. I know it's supposed to be 12Kohms so I figured it was toast and pulled it out of the guitar. Kind of bummed cause it couldn't even be rewound since it's encased in epoxy or something.
Then just for the hell of it, I tried checking the resistance across different wire combinations and got these readings:
black to white(no bare)=6KΩ
black to bare(no white)=12KΩ
white to bare(no black)=6KΩ
black to white+bare=6KΩ
black+bare to white=3KΩ
So it looks like if I just ignore the white wire completely it will work at full output. What's going on here? Is the white wire a coil tap or something? I haven't seen anything that says this pickup has this feature.
