Is this Marshall for real?

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

Err..that ones got me scratching my head... Why buy a Marshall with a MarkIII preamp? Why mod it? Why sell it? For so cheap? Something's fishy.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

Why not just get a MKIII rackmount with a tube poweramp, sounds like thats what hes doing.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

There's a lot of very sketchy things here.

1: the seller is new
2: that means the seller has NO feedback
3: Mark IIIs, last time I checked, weren't handwired
4: pics look like it is the guts of a Mark III in a Marshall JCM covering
5: if people say it was used by "so and so" odds are 99% of the time it isn't ;)

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

George Himself has been known to post here from time to time. I wonder if he'll get wind of this and have something to say about it?

The story seems very fishy to me.

EDIT: Oh wow the guy lives in Aliso Viejo, CA. Thats about a 15-minute drive for me!

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

Knob on the Mesa "can be replaced for less than $100" ... Do they really charge anywhere near that for one knob??

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

Here's some things I've picked up that don't sound right to me...

"This "signature" Marshall head alone (With no modifications and no pre-amp) sells for $1,300+ on ebay." Notice how the seller says without a pre-amp. These amps go for under that amount WITH a preamp. That doesn't sound right.

"I originally paid $5,000 to the electrician who made it for George Lynch." $5000! Come on that's alot of money IMO...sounds like that was thrown in there to jack up the price.

Like B2D stated, it does sound a bit fishy. I'm curious to know what the feedback for this will look like. :laugh2:

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

looks and sounds very fishy to me, i wouldnt go near that thing with a ten foot clown pole!

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

I don't doubt that it sounds like a great amp, but I have to laugh at guys that spend serious money to overbuild amps like that. I don't care if he tracked down Lynch's old tech and paid him $5000....the amp is still worth less than a $1000.

Anyone looking at that should buy a Bogner Shiva and have an amp that'll destroy that old Marshall.....and have a great clean channel and reverb. Ha Ha.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

Thanks guys. I had a funny feeling about it, too. Just wanted a second (3rd 4th 5th etc) opinion. I thought Georgie's favorite was his modded purple Marshall Plexi anyway.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

Yeah, the bottom line is, there's no way that's genuine.... so many things the seller says can't be true.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

I doubt VERY MUCH that Lynch ever used that amp, as he was more fond of modded Plexis during the time frame stated, than in JCM800's. It sounds totally bogus to me.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

It looks like a real Marshall but that's about it...
George responded to an email I posted on his board a LONG time ago that he used various Marshall Plexi's on that album. Mostly the Purple one and some Marshall stuff Lee Jackson had modified.

Re: Is this Marshall for real?

So, what he's basically saying is that he installed half of an effects loop, then plugged a Mark III Preamp (which looks more like a Studio Pre) into it?

That one looks pretty dodgy to me.
