Hi! a friend of mine send me some pics of his guitar and he seemed worried about the screws not fitting properly to the neck. It has never happened to me and I´m not an expert so I told him I would find someone who knew. These are the pics:

So what do you think? is that normal or is there something wrong?
Thanks for your help

Re: is this normal?

Seems like Ibanez AANJ type neck join right? Most probably this is not normal, but what you gotta do is, unstring the guitar, and unscrew the neck screws. Do the recessed holes allow for larger depth? If yes, then the join screws are not right. If no, then it might be ok.
But a closer look reveals that someone tried *hard* to screw that neck screws. Which means that there might be a problem in doing so. Which might reveal a deep structural problem : e.g. wrongly drilled neck holes, etc...
PS
Is this the colors of the flag of Uruguay?

I think they don´t allow for larger depth, does that mean that it is alright or will this structural problem you mentioned be of concern?

Re: is this normal?

On this type of neck fastening, the screw heads should sit more deeply into the steel receptacles which, in turn, would normally sit slightly below the surface of the guitar body.

Additional photographs of the neck joint, seen sideways on, would help.

Looks to me as if whoever dismantled the guitar to paint it failed to reassemble it correctly.

Or that the whole guitar had an inherent problem before the paint was attempted.

Yes, he told me that the problem appeared after painting the guitar. Apparently the holes where the receptacles sat were deeper or larger before it was painted. Do that make any sense?

Re: is this normal?

No, no, no.

No problem with the screws. The first thing that came to my mind when I looked at the pics is that this is not an original paint by the mfr. The truth came out in your post #5.

Paint was allowed to build up in the screw holes too thick. When the screws were inserted they chipped the surrounding paint. And since the paint built up in the bottom of the screw holes, the screws can't seat completely.

Solution...clean out all of the paint from inside the screw holes (in the body).

Thanks! Hope it works!
