Is this possible?

Re: Is this possible?

I'd just use P90s, you'll get more mids. If it doesn't sound straty enough, just turn the treble on full. P90s can get plenty bright though, especially duncans.

Re: Is this possible?

So a P90 is just the way to go, then? Has anybody ever tried a GFS Mean 90? This is probably the cheapest way for me to go right now (I might try a Phat Cat or a custom wound later on tho).

Re: Is this possible?

P-90: Fatter than any single, cuts more than any bucker!

Try a phat cat (bucker - sized) and see how you like it. The P-90 is fairly bright. If you need "more" a regular custom p-90 is awesome for rocking out!

Re: Is this possible?

i've played surf tunes live with a Phat Cat loaded Sheraton and gotten many compliments on its tone. I think they would be exactly what you want.

Re: Is this possible?

I've got Phat Cats in a Les Paul and they're my fave p/u's ever, but to be accurate, I wouldn't say they're "in between a p-90 and a strat pickup". I've read here on the forum that the neck Phat Cat is "overwound" and this makes it fairly thick in the low mids to my ears.
Please post your results when you decide and install...

Re: Is this possible?

Hmmm, the Phat Cat looks enticing! Is the Phat Cat cover nickel or chrome? I ask because the hardware on my guitar is chrome, so I sort of want it all to be nice and matching (call me crazy  ). I still sort of want to try out a HB sized p90 with slugs instead of screws for pole pieces though.
