Is this true?

Re: Is this true?

Sorry, it's not a JCM900 at all. It's an 800. Can you get the JCM heads as Bass heads then or is this guy crazy?

Re: Is this true?

didn't Lemmy from Motorhead use a Marshall head for bass? I was pretty sure it was just a JCM800 but i read that before i knew anything about marshall amps.

Re: Is this true?

I read an interview on tool in guitar world a few years back and the guitar player said he uses a jcm 800 bass head.

Yes, there was a 100w Bass head as well as an (IIRC) 350 W head in the JCM 800 series.

That one is the 100w bass version.... Essentially identical to a 2203 ;)

Re: Is this true?

yep.. there is a JCM800 bass .. one was for sale here for around $500

Thats not 100% correct...Adam used a highly modded JMP Super bass which is before the JCM 800's but, yes it is a bass amp

I think the VBA400 is the only Marshall All-Tube Basshead...

you think wrong...marshall has bass heads all the way up until the JCM 900's...there were Plexi bass heads, JMP Metal from bass heads and the JCM 800 bass heads...all these are all tube

thats right Zerb...Marshall also made that 350 watt monster as a guitar head too, but I have never actually seen one!

As for the bass vs guitar amps at Marshall the differences are very small...to mod a bass head into aguitar head means changing out a handfull of parts...and a small handfull at that!

I meant the guitar head, I actually forgot that there was also a bass version....

Had one in ONCE for servicing, Tom Schalipp (our then tube tech and still my local tech) almost freaked when he saw it... 2 channels, a built in DI, heavy a a ****ing SVT (because of the HUGE power section).... retubing that thing cost almost 800$ (although there were also a few not so minior repairs to be done, among others there seems to have been a fire in there as some time).

That was the ONLY amp I´ve ever played that can take my JCM and Bitch-slap it to it´s heart´s content :D:D
