is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

SuperD= classic iron maiden. Adrian still uses them.

Also Judas Priest up till 1984 ish in a few of glenns axes, and one of KKs gibbo Vs.

Also that SpaceAce dude.

And a bazillion others.

Its big on bass, big on mids, very crunchy, and has a clear but subdued top end. Perfect for a cranked marshall nmv or early mv.

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

I could be way off-base and am probably just hearing the super distortion sound because you suggested they were using them in their BC Rich guitars at the time, but I definitely hear the super distortion mid grind and low end thickness.

also this reminds me...i haven't listened to this album in ages... time to rectify that.

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

Tough to tell from that mix. Could be a lot of things. Nothing screams SUPERD at me.

KISS ALIVE - THAT screams SuperD

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

man i was heartbroken when i found out that ACE is not even on this track!:eyecrazy: he missed a lot of studio dates and bob( bruces brother) kulick did the guitar parts for ace on this track and many others...

Lol. Figures. That is the one and only KISS song I like.

This is what the ideal SD sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDTE8DpkKE4&feature=related

SO. MUCH. SATURATION.

I don`t know where that version of Dr Love came from but it`s not the Rock N Roll Over version. Aceman where did that goofy version of Dr Love come from? That might be from the bonus disc included with Sonic Boom of re-recorded classic with Tommy Thayer on guitar.

Edit- That`s the version from Sonic Boom

Here`s the classic version with the spaceman

WTF is that? Some sort of bootleg Rock Band / Kareoke mix? That sounds like crap...

LOL , it`s from the bouns disc of Sonic Boom with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer , they re-recorded and ruined some classics

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

The Super D is so prolific and versatile that it sounds like a lot of things.

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

Not according to gene, paul, bob, bruce and a few others that were around the KISS corporation back then.
so you will have to call this the classic version with the guy who played for ace that day becuase ace said
"F**K IT and THEM" :lmao:

What`s happening Ed , legend has it that Ace didn`t show up for some of the sessions of Destroyer and I think it was the tune Sweet Pain that someone else did the lead for. Bob Kulick played on the studio cuts from Alive2 except for Rocket Ride which Ace played all instruments except drums. I`m just getting that from everything I`ve read over the years so who knows but I would bet is all Ace on R&R Over,Alive, Love Gun all the early stuff ect... Gene will probably stretch the truth to slam Ace.

At some point, Ace showed up somewhere and played it. With a Super Distortion.

The crappy version is Gene trying to extract Ace (and Peter) from everything possible. Him and Axl should form a band.

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

The SuperD sounds kind of clean with ample highs believe it or not. It mids are thick and pronounced and the bass sticks out ahead of the mids just a touch. It's a pretty good pickup, but I don't find that it works for me too well. Just too round-sounding overall.

Oddly enough, PSBWB is my favorite Megadeth album, but it doesn't work as well for me as it did for Dave and Co. back in the day. :-/

Re: is this what a Super Distortion sounds like?

For Tribute, isn't Randy using a Super D in his live set up for most of those songs?
