I just got a used Wampler Nirvana off eBay that has quite a loud hiss to it. It's an older one I think, as it doesn't have the fancy graphics. The price was very good so I hate to return it, and I may be able to live with it. Anyway, I wondered if that was the nature of these things or if it is actually defective. When I tried it out, it was the only thing hooked up, guitar to Nirvana to amp. I tried it with both a power supply and with battery only.
I'm running it through a Blues Jr and I have the master all the way up and the gain at about 4, fat off. I prefer to run it that way and have the guitar turned down for the most part, but can crank it up when I need to. I can get the same volume, by turning up the guitar and turning the amp down, and the hiss nearly disappears, but I don't think that will work for me that well, although it may be better than paying full price for the pedal.
