Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

Re: Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

I had a C50 for a few years and it was rock solid but sonically it didn't really excite me all that much. I didn't seem to cut real well either, I was using a Tele with QP's, a Strat with Hot Strats and a Special with Custom P-90's and those guitars made other amps rip, maybe it takes 'buckers better but I didn't have any at the time.

Re: Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

I have a Delta Blues 210, which is pretty similar to the Classic 30 (but with a 2x10 configuration), and I'm very happy with it. The cleans are quite nice, and it really comes alive with pedals. I never use the gain channel, though. It's not as good as a Tube Screamer or a good distortion pedal, so I only use pedals for overdrive/distortion. But if you have the foot switch, the gain channel can be used as a nice clean boost. :)

Re: Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

i want to find a deal on a Delta Blues 1x15 model... always had an interest in those...

the drive channel on my C30 is OK for some stuff... right now i'm using a Satchulator pedal set for a solo boost type sound infont of my C30's drive channel.. then i can hit the MORE botton on the Satch and switch the amp over to the Clean channel.. works well that way... 4 different tones with one amp and one pedal... clean, amp OD, Amp OD with a goose from the Satch, and then the Satch's More Gain Feature thru the C 30's Clean channel! FUN!!!

Re: Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

Same here, really liking a Hwy 1 Tele through a C30, on both clean and crunch.

BTW, what spkr are you using in your C30?

just stock stuff... i bought the Peavey C30 combo with a matching tweed 1x12 for less then $500 a few years ago... it still has the tubes and speakers that came with it... first thing i need to do is change the tubes oneday!

Re: Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

Wow, I just found this thread and I gotta put in my 2 cents. I didn't realize there were fans over here.

I bought my classic 50 212 right before christmas '07 for $400 brand new still in the box.(GC clearance sale) I replaced the speakers with a Green Beret and a Veteran 30 from Warehouse Guitar Speakers and she rocks hard. It's my first tube amp and I feel like I made a pretty good choice, especially concidering what I paid. After years of playing crappy amps it's soooo nice finally have good tone.....

and like someone else already mentioned, with a Metal Muff on the clean channel it'll do the hard rock / heavy metal thing just fine.

I love mine.

Re: Isn't the Peavey Classic 50...

Bump back to the top...at the show this past Saturday, I had the soundguy complement my tone from my C50 212...he said it was warm and cut well, but nothing was ever too harsh...and this was with a G&L ASAT.

**** good stuff for trading my Ampeg Jet reissue straight over...:friday:
