Issues recording from Pod XT to PC...

Hey all,

I'm trying to record from my Pod XT to my laptop. My buddy and I fought with it all night, but can't seem to get it to record using USB connection.

So we tried to use the output and headphones jack to my laptop's mic in jack. Here's where the weirdness begins. You can hear heavy distortion, like the line level is too much, and then it just digitizes.

The best way I can describe it is like a modem-ish, without squawking / transmission sounds. Almost like the Transformers talking to each other in the movies. Real weird.

We tried using Audacity and Nuendo, and neither seemed to work. He runs his amp using a mic to a mixer, and then to his PC via firewire so he knows what he's doing. Just neither of us could figure out why I can't get a steady signal from my Pod XT on my Gateway laptop.

Do I need some kind of Line 6 software on the PC to quote unquote interpret what is coming from the Pod XT???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

:banghead:

If you're on Windows go to control panel > sounds and devices and make sure you have the input and output set correctly.

I don't exactly have those exact menus on Windows 7.

Any idea?

Under Sounds --> Recording --> I have MICROPHONE --> "Realtek High Definition Audio"

My expertise in Windows 7 really falls off here, if anyone can offer any further clues as to settings or whatnot.

If need be, I can get specific model number of my laptop and try to get all the internal / integrated hardware involved.

Oh, I'm on XP. There should be a drop down menu or some sort of menu in there to set the input and output to the POD XT. I assume you have the drivers installed for the POD? It would not have anything to do with the hardware just settings in Windows or your recording software.

Check the Line6 site you probably do.

my mic does that on rare occasion, usually when something way too loud is going through and overloads it...perhaps try turning your output knob on the XT all the way down, then starting to nudge it up ever so slightly. i dunno.

as far as USB goes, you do need line6 software to get it to record via USB. go on www.line6.com and grab "Line 6 Monkey," "Line 6 Edit," and whatever drivers they say to get.

Re: Issues recording from Pod XT to PC...

Yeah, download Line 6 Monkey to get the drivers, then use it via USB.

Re: Issues recording from Pod XT to PC...

Dominus, i have Monkey and can't get sh*t through USB, or Output to my laptop's input jack.

You probably need to choose inputs and outputs in your settings on your recording software.
Sorry I can't elaborate. I'm not familiar with Pods and line 6 stuff.

For control panel in winders 7 go to start.[ Click it ] The menus on the right should have control panel there.

Monkey is the software that lets you download other software. Use Monkey to download the driver, then install the driver. Then you need to configure your recording software to use the Line 6 unit and not the onboard.

Re: Issues recording from Pod XT to PC...

I fixed it, well not really. My laptop gives me issues, so i think it's the soundcard used in the laptop. My PC works fine over USB.

Who knows...

Re: Issues recording from Pod XT to PC...

Once you have the driver (see above), make sure the soundcard is set to "Line6PODXT" for Sound Playback and for Sound Recording, NOT Realtek....

The POD becomes the soundcard during recording/playback.
