iStomp users?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
What do we know?

Are the only modules the ones listed on the Digitech site?

Seriously thinking about it...

Re: iStomp users?

Have you looked at the Eventide H9? I have been burnt too many times with Digitech Multi-effects. Not the biggest fan of much of their stuff.

Are you suggesting Aceman should look into buying a $500 pedal?

Good luck with that bro.

Re: iStomp users?

I don't own it but have looked into it. It uses the same AudioDNA2 chip that digitech uses in their current line of multifx, including the flagship rack unit that has two of those chips. The only difference & a big one at that is, in this pedal that single chip is entirely focused for one specific effect at a time, so the algos used are bigger & complex. So when comparing with their multi's, the iStomp models are to sound better.

I think they gave some or most of their models out for free last year end on the official site, i mean the digital models for the iStomp that users could buy online from digitech. So if you can pick one up for cheap then it would sound bettter than their X-series of pedals but maybe not at the same level as their hardwire series of pedals.

The only thing of concern is the connectivity with the iOS. Not sure if it's been fixed or not yet. Also not sure if it works only with an iDevice or can it be connected to regular PC to load different pedals into it. :friday:

Re: iStomp users?

I know the basics. I was just wondering what was up with the FX apps. They have like 39 of them.

I think this would be killer for my "I can't decide what I want next" deal or the "I'm in need of X for the month"

I have a Chorus FActory and really love it. That said - noted; Digitich is not the most beloved brand.

But the collection of fx was a bit underwhelming. They had like one of everything; Phase, Flange (EH), Tremolo, Chorus (a couple), Delays analog and digital, etc...and the obvious dirt choices.

But a Boss RV 3, for example, would have been awesome. Or a phase 45.

Re: iStomp users?

I think I'm going to get one since they're so low. I wonder if they're coming out with another version soon since it's dropped so significantly. Sometimes I could use a Compressor... other times I don't need one... Sometimes I need a tremolo, other times I don't... I think it's good for these types of situations. I could always keep it on one of the generic delays otherwise. The only annoying thing is changing its placement in the chain - but that's just me whining.

Re: iStomp users?

I would be cautious. The pedal was going for well over a hundred just months ago with a MSRP of $229. Now it is $39 with 10 free stomp patches. If people are not buying into the pedal I don't see Digitech supporting the iStomp for very long. You could end up with a brick 5 years down the road. That is not a great lifespan for a piece of gear.

Re: iStomp users?

^5 years for a $40 pedal that models a ton of other pedals.... that doesn't sound like a really bad investment IMO. How many brand new $40 pedals do you own? I don't think I've ever bought a pedal for that cheap.

Re: iStomp users?

The thing is that it was a bit on the expensive side & it needed the i-device to upload effects into it. They had a long list of issues with the ipB10 unit regarding apple software & connector issues. I think the connector issue also carried over to the iStomp. I'd bet having the ability to have to be stuck with an ipad/iphone/ipod interface is what caused people to stay away from it the most. Besides that there was competition like L6 M9, Zoom G3/MS50G in that price range which offered more features for same or less price.

Digitech is moving away from the i-thing, so probably wanna empty their stock, hence the drop in price, plus the free giveaway of those 20/30+ downloadable effects.

It was a nice concept but apple keeps redesigning/updating/improving their devices. Tieing a non harware evolving unit(istomp/ipb10) with a random evolving unit(ipad/iphone) is just not a very thought after plan IMO

yea, they've restarted DOD or all things. I like that turn of events more.

Re: iStomp users?

I was going to buy it for him but I don't like the tone this thread is taking so forget it now.

I'm sorry but was I supposed to know that through osmosis? Whenever I see someone say "Have you looked at X pedal" it's always to buy for themselves, not to receive it as a gift.

Re: iStomp users?

$40 plus 10 pataches??????

Might be hard not to....

That's a win if all I ever did was use it as a digital delay!

Re: iStomp users?

All, except the Adrian Belew Impossible pedal are free right now. My guess is something is new at NAMM.

Good point you might want to hold off a bit before buying anything new. Something new and shiny might be around the corner. Also if Digitech releases an iStomp 2.0 or something similar they will be giving those things away.
