Why can I not put my SM57 in front of my cab, plug it into my UX2 which is plugged into my MacBook, start up Reaper and just hit record? Do I have to use Pod Farm? I thought I had it working when I saw an actual wave in the Reaper track, but playing it back gives me nothing. What am I missing?

Yes, I'm the worst producer of all time, but this should be easy. Help.

You've probably have to select your input source in Reaper.

Yeah, check your settings, make sure reaper sees your UX2 and make sure the track input it set properly.

Pg 16 talks about track inputs. If you don't see your device inputs there then you need to go to settings > audio devices or something like that. Have you installed the proper drivers as well?

It can, and it is. I've been futzing with this crap (sound engineering) for 16 years and I still have a *long* way to go. :naughty:

Same with Sonar. Maybe there is an Options page which sets your preferred input to default?

It's not an issue as such. It's just a case of knowing the software. Luckily I've been using Sonar for probably over a decade now. It still sends me curve balls every now and then however.

There are always a few things to do when a DAW is installed: sort out the keyboard shortcuts; get the buffers right; drivers;, directories. Stuff like that should - I say should - be there the next time you create a new project. Ins and outs are usually selected per track, but it should be fairly simple.

Which begs the question: Is this a new install? I'll help if I can but I use Windows. I teach music tech on Macs though. From memory I think you need to point the software at the right driver.

Yes it can, but as has been said, it's all about having the correct drivers, being certain that you computer recognizes your interface as the default recording and playback, and then setting the correct preferences. Can you monitor your input?

POD Farm is not required although I use a VST version of it and have found it to be more intuitive than the VSTs packaged with Reaper that have parameters I don't know how to set. Basically, I know probably less about all this than you, and I look forward to recording again and experiencing the frustration that your dealing with right now.
