Its Decided Tele-Gib here I come

I am going tele-gib. I have a JB/Jazz in another guitar and I want to put them in my tele. I need to route the bridge for a humbucker but I do not know what bridge to order. I know warmoth and WD music have them, I just do not know what string spacing I need. Also, should I stick with 250K pots or bump up to 500K. I am currently using 500k with the JB and Jazz but I never heard them with 250K what do you prefer and why for blues/rock.

Thanks....

Re: Its Decided Tele-Gib here I come

I used the Gotoh bridge that Stewmac sells on a few humbucker Telecasters. My first one was a MIJ Tele, and it kept it's 250K pots for years, but I eventually switched it to 500K pots, a .022uf tone cap, and a good Oak Grigsby 3-way Tele switch. The 250K pots did a nice job of mellowing down the Super Distortion I had in the bridge position, but it lacked bite because of that. When I switched to Gibson pickups, I switched to 500K pots. It now has Duncan '59s in it.

I wouldn't worry about string spacing all that much with a Tele. Strat spacing is even wider.

I'd also like to try Seth Lover Duncans, or Pearly Gates, but I probably won't ever get around to it. Too many pickups, not enough guitars.

Because I wanted to copy Seymours TG, I got the standard sized HBs. The JB is a tiny bit off the poles but the Jazz lines up perfect (strings). Pretty sure Seymour used 250K pots. Tone is perfect...to me, also a Maple neck is part of the formula, probably giving more snap. Good luck and have fun.

Re: Its Decided Tele-Gib here I come

going from 500k to 250k pots will darken the guitar up a LOT...however, Seymour uses 250k pots as does Jeff Beck in his Tele Gib. Now, on the spacing Seymour's Tele Gib has a stop tailpiece and a tune-o-matic while Jeff's has a cut down box bridge like butnut's TG...but Seyomur put gibson spaced pickups in Jeff's guitar.

If I were doing one (and I might one day!) I woudl put standard spaced pickups and 250k pots in it...either way it'll be a great guitar!

Re: Its Decided Tele-Gib here I come

I am just going to be using one of those new fangled tele bridges that fit humbuckers rather than mounting rings. I noticed the one that wd music offers has a different string spacing than the Gotah one that warmoth offers. I just dont know what kind of string spacing my tele has. I am away at college and I have no tools or anything so I am getting the bridge and new pickguard shipped home to cincinnati where I will change it so in 3 weeks I will have pics for ya. Black body with a Black/White/Black pickguard and a maple neck. It looks sick right now I just need my humbuckers and I am pretty sure I am going to buy new 500k pots and a Orange Cap.

yes, my friend is helping me, he did it to his american tele so I think I trust him with my MIM

Re: Its Decided Tele-Gib here I come

Whatever the bridge (if a tele style) I'd say get brass saddles. For pots get 500k and try with combinations of resistors to get the value sounds the best.

Welp Ill be ordering the bridge and pickguard soon and will be going home to all the tools at my house in 3 weeks. Any Tips for the routing job. There is already space for the neck humbucker. I am just going to have to take care of the bridge
