It's Finally Happened

Re: It's Finally Happened

Never buying a used Fender off ebay again. The counterfeit guys must be loving this.

Re: It's Finally Happened

Confusing idea.

I guess they're aiming for the people who care about "genuine Fender" when buying after-market parts.

Re: It's Finally Happened

I'd assume the neck logo says something like "Fender Replacement" or something and its in black writing as opposed to the gold and silver... I'm sure fender aren't stupid enough to just give away necks with their proper logo on

Re: It's Finally Happened

Actually the Mexi necks use the black lettering, the USA ones the silver. However I think the real roadblock to an easy counterfeit is that they're simply priced too outrageously high for there to be a margin for profit by using one original Fender part and cheap replicas of the rest.

Even the Mexican neck costs 200 USD, I am having a hard time picturing getting everything else for bellow 100 USD and there's already people selling their Mexi strats for about that much, sometimes even less...

Re: It's Finally Happened

Counterfeit? You can buy fender logos from china. If anything, this is fenders attempt at recouping some of the market they lose to counterfeiters. And warmoth.

Re: It's Finally Happened

This is actually not new. You could always get a replacement neck or body from them just by calling and providing the serial number of the guitar and reason for the replacement. It's just that now they are joining in on the replacement parts business by putting it out there with prices. Great idea, but I wonder if they are a little late coming in to the game. In addition, there are no customization options. You are limited to what is offered which matches what is offered on complete instruments.

They'd benefit from a virtual guitar designer like Warmoth's (online).
Probably a matter of time. In Fender's case they don't want to compete with themselves, of course (they make their money selling their custom and stock guitars, not kits some might substitute for their other products). Still, replacement parts is a great business!
