It's nice when...

...a tube amp problem is just a tube.

I had been having an issue where an open D or G would cause what I can only describe as a "wobbly" sound. It seemed to be intermittent, and I thought it was going to require me to open up my guitar and diagnose a loose connection or a bad cable to my wireless unit, which would suck because the end screws on. It seemed to go away a little bit based on how I held the guitar.

But a spare tube saved the day, even though it was in the last position left to try.

I'm sure this post has been fascinating, so thanks for your attention regarding this matter.

It's almost always just a tube. Tubes are weird, unpredictable bastards. Even the one I have tattooed on my arm acts up sometimes.

Re: It's nice when...

Turns out I may have spoken too soon. Very strange. It seems to go away once the amp has been played for about ten minutes or so, even after replacing the tube. And it's only when the guitar is driving it pretty hard, such as immediately after attack, and usually only on the D or G strings. Messing with the pickup height has little effect, and it happens on multiple guitars. I'll have to keep looking into it.
