I was sitting about 15 feet away from the stage at this Glendale show, and can say that Don is a player that's best appreciated by watching him, because a lot of the sounds he wrangles out of that tele need to be seen, not just heard.

Cool clip. Do you have the whole recording of it? By the way, I thought that tele was vintage. The relic job fooled me.

I had that killer congesting flu that as going round ( the one thats ruined my sinuses as we speak today) and Icould hardly talk or hear.
So I tried to cover it up by roughing my voice out like Johnny Winter or ZZ Top, pretty scarry when I hear it but it's different, and at least I'm not cringing at the sound of my own voice which is usally the case when I hear my self on tape,, scarry!!!

yea we got the whole show PM me your address agian.

That clip is SICK! Tone and chops galore! Kind of Pagesque as many have said.

so I will not have to send out cds

providing you guys can save and burn these clips?-- I dunno?? lemme know if thats do-able

hey, about swells, it's a pinky finger hook, and you need the right size knob and a pot that spins free and has a violin sweep.

my best tip is this,
it's at least year's practice just to get usable ones to the stage, what happens is you can get them happining at home, but onstage they'll need more volume faster, this is to transend them over the bands roar,
onstage its a whole different feel, Walter Trout was helpful to me years back when he told me it takes alot of gain to get them to work, next is volume pot trouble, as you'll wear out pots and scramble to find suitable repalcments, stiff pots won't work at all, & scratcy pots are no good too.

One day I drove to 6 stores in search of a suitable pot, I came home empty handed, so be determined!

I made friends with a guitar maker who would let me go thru 300 at once, from 300 I may get only 2-3..

I have learned to take thme apart and get rid of that thick waxy grease and sand down the spining areas ( Shaft $ Spline) with 220 -to400-to- 600 -to 1500-

on on good note CTS brand pots are sold aftermarket and are stock in most new Fenders guitars, These will work usaly on the first try.

CTS refers to a brand of pot which users find better than the generic versions, right?

yep, Fender replacment part,
Acme has them,

A quick way to ID a CTS is the center is recessed and the shaft sticks through it's center. (ACME has stampped the name "acme" where CTS usally is, but those are CTS)

a good rule of thumb is the flat top pots ( No Recess) usally will send ya on a goose chase.

Man, I really dug that. I never would have imagined that you could pull some of those sounds out of a tele. You sound like a true master, Don. I really dug your tone, too. It's pretty close to where I want to get with the tone for my teles. :bowdown:

Too funny!

That was my first day out of the house; from 3 weeks in bed with that dang ol' flu bug,

It took every thing I had to pull that off. when it was over I sat for hours in a lawn chair outside, that flu tried to kill me!! and I barely was able to get all set up and play that day. one thing for sure my voice and ears were shot from that flu.

this tune was our encore song, and I wanted to let the cat out of the bag,
the others are toned down a shade or two,

I'll host em up soon.

I'm thinking of sending this track and 3 others to Aligator Records, Roy Buchanan was On Aligator up until 1988 when he died, Maybe Aligator would want a guy like me???

I'm for sure going to shop for a better deal, Train Bridge Records was total BS I lost 15 months !!! while waiting for them to fund the label. and finish my studio CD, they never did. The GREAT NEWS* is I never SIGNED a thing!!

OMFG, that was the most aggressive Tele playing I'd ever HEARD! Sure, the casual shredder virtuoso is awesome, but whoo-boy, that dirrrrrty blues was one in a million! Yowza. You, sir, are a terrifying guitar player!
