I've owned MANY Dimarzios AND Duncans and Dimarzios dont' have any hiss or noise.

The bottom line is Dimarzio fills a definitely void in the Duncan line...they have medium to high output pickups that are really beefy and laden in mids and lows....really great for a thick sound.

And when people say they are better for "processed sounds" or "shredding" that's really just internet folklore....

+1

It's also no coincedence that some of the best players in the world use only Dimarzio!
One of my Fave Chuck Chuldiner used the X2N! I'll have to try that one in the future.

Not a chance....they're all different interpretations of what a PAF would sound like.

The original PAFs weren't consistent and here's a tip...NOBODY has it right....every company took what they thought was a good sounding PAF and made their pickups from it. There's too many variations to what a "correct PAF" is too say any one is more valid than the other with the exception of the antiquity stuff or stuff that's aged.

Listen to any recording that's made with alnico II PAF's and listen to Seth's and PAF Classics. The Seth's get closer to it than the DMZ's, even the Virtual PAF's.

I'm not saying Dimarzio's sound bad (I love their noiseless strat offerings), but Duncans definately do some things better.

Re: I've Gone To The Dark Side...And I Love It!

I won't lie... the DiMarzio Evolution set and a JB/Jazz combo tie for the best-sounding humbuckers I've ever heard.

I was using a PAF Pro set for about a year in my MIA Strat but I always had a hard time getting enough snarl out of it... the JB/Jazz took care of THAT straightaway.

Re: I've Gone To The Dark Side...And I Love It!

Well I'm yet to try an Evo bridge, but I've gone back to a JB bridge in the Jackson, and couldn't be happier. ;)

JB bridges all around for me...came as kind of a surprise, as one's in a mohogany set neck, the other in an alder bolt-on, but they both kick a ton of ass. Unless I have the urge to change the Jazz neck in the Schecter out for a FS or something in the near future, I think I'm set pickup-wise in these guitars.

Now for the floyd axe that's comming next... I'm thinking Evo bridge, Screamin' Demon neck...

HAHAHA
THINK" INTERPLANETARY TONAL INVASION BY HOSTILE FORCES"
ahahahahahahahah
Man, the EVOLUTION is good, but a little bit6 dirty, i mean the bridge one
it has some kind of little dirty associated with it in the palm mute section
i disliked the neck version.

Re: I've Gone To The Dark Side...And I Love It!

I´m Simple UNDECIDED yet for WHAT ****ing pickup should i get for my NEW inabez(IBANEZ)
I´m thinking the following : super distortion/super 2, tone zone/air norton, tone zone/paf pro, Beeds/breeds, x2n, drop sonic.
OR aset of seymour duncan distortions.
i want a neck pickup with the maximum ammount of sustain as possible.

Re: I've Gone To The Dark Side...And I Love It!

I'm actually a fan of the dimarzio PAF in the bridge for metal and hard rock. It's gotta be in the right guitar maybe, but I've been enjoying it. If I need more output I just turn up the gain somewhere down the chain.
