thanks for the suggestions everyone. I still am unsure what to do with the controls. i'm not a fan of the stock configuration, have thought about the varitone, have also thought about blenders, but am coming to dead ends in every direction. I want the biggest range of tones possible.

funny euphemism with the knobs and 3-way thing.

but seriously...i am looking for wiring ideas. i do like the idea of a bass contour that was mentioned...how would i wire that up? any other ideas?
