I've got gretsch gas

Re: I've got gretsch gas

I used to be mostly a solid body guy, or a Gibson hollowbody guy because Steve Howe is a hero of mine.
But I saw no need for a "country and alt rock guitar" like a Gretsch... until I heard Henry Frayne use one.

Let me help.

This was mine. Gretsch PowerJet Firebird. It ripped faces and took names. Ended up selling it, because it was a guitar I would use for 1 song in our set, and I couldn't justify keeping it.

Gretsch is the type of guitar where either it's your thing, and it just feels natural, or for me, it felt more like a tone I could use once in a while, almost like an effect (if that makes any sense). The fun part is you kind of have to own one for a while to figure out if they work for you.

Re: I've got gretsch gas

That's how Henry Frayne uses one. In fact in the credits on his Lanterna CD, he thanks someone for letting him borrow the Gretsch.
If you use one as an effect (and that is a great description, and that's exactly how I'd use one) then there is also the option of finding a friend who has one and borrowing theirs.
Hmm. The owner at the shop I teach guitar at on Saturdays was showing me his Gretsch hollow body a couple of weeks ago.
